I would like to know how far Fox have investigated having a designated Rugby League channel ?? If you throw in Premier League, Jersey Flegg, JBC, selected matches from the CRL and QSL, Arrive Alive and junior reps Harold Matthews and SG Ball, that's a f**ken lot of footy (and a quick trip to the divorce court) for every league lover to wallow in. I think it would be fantastic. 24hr Rugby League, warm the set and cool the tinnie
The AFL rights are owned by Foxtel, who don't own Fox Sports. Since Foxtel don't have the rights to any other sports they needed to form it's own channel. Fox Sports have been negotiating for a while to purchase the AFL rights off Foxtel, so they have more content for Fox Sports 3.
But the NRL can't be on it's own channel. If it was, that would totally destroy the News Ltd, NRL, etc court case. Remember 7 is suing PBL, Foxtel, Telstra, News Ltd, Fox Sports, and the NRL over the NRL rights? C7 offered significantly more for the TV rights than Fox Sports did. But part of C7s bid involved having a dedicated Rugby League channel(with a per-month charge like Fox Footy initially was) that showed NRL, lower NSW grades, 2 QLD Cup matches. But the NRL rejected that saying that the public doesnt' want an NRL channel, and that was the reason that the NRL chose Fox Sports - and not because of the reason that 7 is saying : News Ltd were biased when awarding the rights to a channel that they part own.
Since that case only started late last year, and is nowhere close to being over, no party is going to give 7 all the evidence that they need to win.
