By the way, the first figure for each is the total national figure, then individual figures for Sydney-Melbourne-Brisbane-Adelaide-Perth

yeah, sorry I probably should have just put in the NRL game and not the other shows.

Brisbane's ratings seem low.
Good strong ratings in Sydney and Melbourne though.

With regional ratings added in the NRL will out rate the AFL GF.

730,000 for the News in Melbourne (a MASSIVE figure), indicating there would have been about this many watching the latter stages of the game, as that rating would have been for 7.00-7.30 (the time the news was scheduled to air)

Yep. There is no doubt the audience for the GF in Melbourne was peaking at the conclusion of the game and would have stayed high for the preso.

Nine News benefitted from this, leaving many fans pissed off.

SEN radio has been bagging Ch 9 all morning. Even Fat Pat Smith has stuck the boot in to that cretin of a station.

I'll be very disappointed if the NRL do not include regionals in their press release for the ratings.

With regionals it should beat the AFL GF. Why they refuse to make known the best figures possible is beyond me.

Listening to the game on the radio is a more attractive option than having to listen to the knob gobblers on Nein.

Very Very true. Regional centres are not included in these figures.

That's right - they must include regionals to show the full picture.. AFL is televised on all major channels and hence has the full ratings of the top 5 cities. In contrast; the largest regionals (where we are exceptionally strong) are neglected.

Does anyone have the regional results?
Do the regioanls include WIN and NBN?

The 2009 NRL Grand Final topped 2.41m last night pushing Nine to a big win for Sunday. The match was significantly higher than the 2008 final of 2.07m. In Sydney 1.11m viewers watched on, while Melbourne had 650,000 -more than Brisbane’s 535,000.

But in Melbourne, talkback callers today were angry over Nine’s switch to Nine News before the Presentation to the Storm team. In reality, the Presentation was never scheduled in that city. But at a time when the Anti-Siphoning List is being reviewed, it furthers the arguments in the Pay TV camp to give sports more comprehensive coverage.

It's all rubbish anyway. I was in a pub in Perth with about 250 other people watching the game. I am sure there were many many more pubs the same. The figures are at best guesstimates.

Some updated numbers from http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/ne...a-ratings-winner/story-e6freuz0-1225782913052

MORE than 2.5 million Australians tuned it to see Melbourne's premiership triumph over Parramatta - making it the most watched NRL grand final in three years.
An average national audience of 2.523 watched the the Storm's 23-16 win yesterday, with the audience peaking at 3.095 million, according to figures from the Nine Network.
The audience was up about half a million viewers on last year's decider, and it was the highest rating NRL grand final since Brisbane's triumph over Melbourne in 2006 when 2.533 million watched.
The largest audiences for the Storm and Eels showdown were in Sydney, where just over 1.16 million watched, followed by Melbourne (682,000) and Brisbane (563,000).

It came short of last month's AFL grand final, which is the highest rating sports event of the year, with an average of about 2.8 million viewers.

Interesting, but it probably isn't a fair comparison considering Melbourne had a local team competing. Anyone know the ratings in Sydney for the '05 and '06 AFL GFs?

991,000 in 2005 and 750,000 in 2006.

1996 was the highest with 1.01 million.

Those figures actually compare pretty well considering the population differences of Sydney and Melbourne.

EDIT: Wrong. I've always thought Sydney was much bigger than Melbourne, weird.
