Im sure its been said before but its time to go back to one. IMO it has not improved any part of their performance. Watching the AUS v NZD game a few weeks ago was refreshing seeing one ref run the show.

What are your thoughts on two refs?

Pocket ref is totally useless.

Watch ESL and there can be no argument against going back to one ref . . . finding one the quality of Bentham and Silverwood in Australia is a different matter

I think 2 refs are the reason the penalty counts seem so high at the moment (I don't know the stats but it seems we have far more pedantic penalties than in the past)

I really don't think 2 refs is making the game better and we should go back to one

Is that enough of a sample size to make that call though?

I think like people calling for video refs to be removed, you would find the impact of them not being there is far greater than people realise.

No its probably not but I have never watched an international game and thought they could use an extra ref out there. Im just interested in what others think imo it has been quite obvious two refs haven't improved anything. In a game that has so many interpretations having two refs out there seems counter productive, I know there is head ref now but they just are so inconsistent with their rulings im sure having two refs taking turns has something to do with that. Also they seem to get in each others way a lot, not literally but things like when you hear one ref calling milking and the other blowing a penalty.

This is the fundamental part of the argument. It all comes down to a subjective opinion of course.

I think it has gone a long way towards removing the wrestle and speeding up the ruck.

In the last two ANZAC tests some real howlers, like players dropping the ball from a kick off have been missed by one ref.

I also think its a great way to blood younger refs.

Has it though? The ruck has been pretty slow prior to this season, the rule changes have made it faster maybe its just that. Anyway like you said its all subjective.

It might help if you took the whistle off the pocket ref and left him to be like a roaming touch judge. It wouldn't be that different to what we have now but it may minimise the mixed messages they can give off on occasion now since the pocket ref seems to take control for parts of the game.

Just a consequence of going back to one ref to consider is that the the ten metres would become more inconsistent, as it is the ref can take his eyes off the ruck for a moment to check the onside and not miss anything. Taking away the pocket ref could limit the refs ability to keep a good defensive line.

Not much wrestling in ESL, players and referee know that a fast game is a good game. The Poms might not be as talented as our lot but the crowd enjoy games more because bullshit is replaced by activity

If they are to persist with it, I would be ok with this.

Otherwise, f**k the merkin off.

It's so damn simple. One ref and two touch judges who actually do something. Let them hold the 10 etc. At the moment they're just an ugly cheerleader.

NRL Ref is in some occasions a 180-200k a year job for the top tier refs, going back to one is going to cost some people a top paying job.

Huge conspiracy to get 6 people on $100k a year salary.

Bloody rich elite.
