If Tmay is presenting his case today surely we won’t have the answer today. They will need a week to ponder it. Unless his fate is already sealed and this is just a formality.

I can't remember this club ever sacking a first grader before. Definitely not one who'd won a premiership. And they've had some shockers.

Richie Williams, Daine Laurie (the first one) and Joel Romelo come to mind. But they were all fringe at best, not a regular starter.

I have no love for May, he’s been shown to be a liability in many games, even in the GF where it mattered, but I can’t shake the feeling that the club are simply looking for an excuse to tear up his contract to free up salary cap space.

This latest infraction of his is definitely not a sackable offence.

It's not, in isolation, but I am sure he would have been put on a very small leash and subject to conditions when he escaped a harsher sentence last year, and the Insta post was in contravention of these conditions. Hence the meeting with the board. If he survives, it is surely his last chance.

If his post was just one of him with the ring and celebrating the win, probably would have been no drama.

But because it had one of him at court, PLUS the song containing lyrics about being dragged in the mud, etc. - this is why May is where he is. Whether it is a witch hunt by the media (partly true) is irrelevant, there are likely to be legal reasons stemming back from his sentencing last year that has led to where he is now, such as not publicly referring to the victim (directly or in this case indirectly).

Even better still, if he didn't post at all, no problems.

Players on social media is a double edged sword - it allows access and when used properly is a great insight. But can also be used to expose the bad side, and this exists in all segments of society.

Maybe all players need to be banned or very severely restricted with their use. But they can't be babysat and looked after 24/7, they need to use their brains too.

For the record, May is a half decent 14 and good for squad depth, but we all saw how he went when he was the starting halfback whilst Nathan was playing Origin.

If he goes, frees up a spot for someone else. If he stays, it's his last chance.

Board meeting is today isn't it? so we should know what the outcome is today.
Maybe, maybe not. The board may wish to deliberate on whatever defence May puts up. If they don't they will leave themselves open to accusations of unfair dismissal. The deliberation might only be 5 minutes, but they will have to show that they have considered his argument.

I empathise with you on your feeling about Ivan. I felt similarly about Gus when he went to the Roosters in the 90's. But the lol at the family man comment seems a bit odd given that the moves he made that drive your hate stem from him being exactly that.
I don’t hate Ivan at all, I just think he didn’t do the right thing by the Wests Tigers.

Moreover, I’ve entirely exonerated him from this pressing May Instagram business.

Tex has been mentioned as a replacement and there’s further mutterings the Board will hear him out and then reserve their decision for a later date.

Then if he’s unwanted, I suppose he will get his advices.

If he’s wanted, I suspect that will seek to impose a myriad of conditions.

Penrith Panthers has today terminated the NRL playing contract of Tyrone May with immediate effect.
The Panthers Board of Directors concluded May’s conduct following the 2021 NRL Grand Final constituted a serious breach of his contractual obligations.
The Board also gave consideration to previous breaches in making the decision to terminate his contract at this time.
"As a club we understand our responsibilities to the game, our corporate partners, our members and fans, and the wider Rugby League community," Panthers CEO Brian Fletcher said.
"The Board observed due process in this matter and considered all relevant factors before reaching its final decision.
"Panthers will coordinate with the NRL to ensure Tyrone receives access to any support services he needs moving forward."

I shall correct some fallacies.

1. Ivan signed a contract with the Panthers, with one year remaining at the Tigers. Players do that.

2. Ivan had every intention in honoring his West Tigers contract.

3. Justin Pascoe had a dummy spit, making the situation untenable.

4. Ivan wanted to coach his son.

5. The Tigers wanted Nathan, hence their reaction.
