It all depends on the willingness of the GAYSW. If both WR and RLIF assure them that the two rugbys are separate and should be governed according well then maybe they would register a rugby league federation. The WR threatening to pull funding to UAErugby would do the trick, but I doubt they would go to that length.

“Both World Rugby and RLIF recognise that the sports of Rugby Union and Rugby League are led by sovereign International Federations and neither has any jurisdiction over the other sport,” said David Collier, the RLIF chief executive on Sunday.

World Rugby, union’s global rulers, are aware of the situation but unwilling to make an official comment. It is understood they have also been involved in finding a solution.

RLIF Statement regarding the UAE

Following the intervention of the Rugby League International Federation, UAE lawyers Al Tamimi & Co. have been engaged to assist RLIF in discussions with the General Authority for Youth and Sports Welfare concerning the optimal process for ensuring a sustainable presence for the development of Rugby League in the UAE in full compliance with the laws of the UAE and under the authority of GAYSW.
With the support of World Rugby and in consultation with the appropriate authorities in the UAE we are working to ensure that any charges against Mr Sol Mokdad relating to any allegations of misrepresentation will be withdrawn at the earliest possible stage, while fully respecting all requirements of UAE law and procedure.
In order to comply with the requirements of GAYSW, RLIF is working to facilitate discussion of strategies and measures to ensure appropriate coordination under the right local Federation in full and open compliance with UAE law and the requirements of GAYSW. RLIF is grateful to GAYSW for its support in this process and RLIF is working proactively to meet with GAYSW at short notice to discuss a suitable platform for the development of Rugby League in the UAE as well as to agree a positive and constructive solution to allow a World Cup Qualification match to be played in the UAE in October.

The Chief Executive of the Rugby League International Federation has met with the General Authority of Youth, Sport and Welfare to discuss the optimal means for recognition of Rugby League in the UAE. Background information not previously in the hands of GAYSW was provided to GAYSW in respect of the sovereignty of World Rugby for the sport of Rugby Union and the Rugby League International Federation for the sport of Rugby League.

Further consideration and discussion will now take place prior to a determination on the optimal structure for the representation of Rugby League in the UAE . The CEO of the RLIF Dr David Collier OBE commented: “RLIF is most grateful for the wise counsel and review of this information by GAYSW. We recognise that any solution will include the recognition of RLIF as the sovereign International Federation for the governance of Rugby League and RLIF has committed to working with GAYSW to identify this solution.”

So Mokdad was effectively blackmailed to sign over his stake in the sport to the RU federation.

UAE Rugby statement sounds like rubbish. They don't have official mandate to run all forms of rugby. That is incorrect. The RLIF and RLEF have not endorsed UAE Rugby to run Rugby League. World Rugby (IRB) has informed UAE Rugby of Rugby League's sovereignty. The UAE Rugby is clutching at straws big time.

In a recorded interview with David Collier on NRL 360 he mentioned that Sol has been released but he didn't know any specific details

While it is infuriating, I think they've done the responsible thing. They've shown how ruthless they are, the guy spent a week in jail. It wouldn't surprise me in a country like that if someone were to end up six-foot-under over this.

So, take the backward step (for now), re-group, get organised, then try again in the near future.

Wouldn't surprise me if the Facebook page had been handed over to UAERU and they published that statement themselves.

We need make it a tradition to play this song before the World Cup Final to honor the likes of Sol.

Had to read this thread twice to make sure it wasn't a piss take.

Absolutely incredible that this shit is happening and even more frustrating that more isn't being made of it.

Anyone involved in Union should be treated with the same respect as someone else's toilet sauce in a park dunny.

Huzzah.
