Deadset... What has happened to this guy?

He used to average 200metres a game, would hit the line with his legs still pumping after being grabbed by 3-4 players. He lead the comp in unassisted linebreaks.

WTF has happened? Now he looks disinterested and about as likely to make a linebreak as Dan Tolar in his heyday.

This isn't about his defence - that's always been shit. I really just don't understand

Newcastle thought they'd give him 2million bucks....... Why work hard and put your body on the line when youre set for life?

He isn't the player that he was, but I disagree that he doesn't try or put his body on the line. He's had some strong games this year and always puts his hand up for carries even if those carries aren't what they once were (and they're still not bad). He also never really recovered from not having MacDougall inside him, which was hugely beneficial to him both on attack and defence.

His contract is no worse than Gagai's right now.

I recall when people referred to him as potentially the greatest try scorer of the modern era. It was when he first started. Then Mr Man Shake retired and it was all over. He is just completely lost on the field. there is no more of the happy go lucky kid who would run over three defenders like they were witches hats in his way,

Pretty much as above. Uates records should largely be credited to the skills of Mad Dog

I miss Mad dog so much and the team is lucky that he played as long as he did. I get the feeling his knee injury hasn't helped as his ability to step around the defense isn't what it was. Having said that I can't help but think he is a confidence player. After he ran 100 metres against the Broncos, only to drop the ball over the line without any player in sight definitely didn't help him in this regard.

I don't think this is giving Aku enough credit. At his peek he was an incredibly dynamic player - he was creating tries from absolutely nothing. Mad Dog's retirement certainly hurt him - he hasn't gotten quality ball from his centre since but he was also creating tries himself.

A lot of things led to his demise in 2012. Put on a large contract, injuries appeared, he put of weight, lost confidence, Mad Dog retired which hurt him in attack but also he was found out more in defence because Gags was the replacement, that led to a further drop in confidence, our play changed dramatically in 2012 under Bennett which didn't suit Aku's game - he was more used as a battering ram.

It's hardly surprising he declined so drastically when he did. A lot changed around that time.

Mad Dog was the best centre this club ever produced. I rate him over Tahu and Gidley. Every time the dog had the ball something was always on. His fullback run was something else. His kick returns would drag three or four players with him and he would still be standing in the tackle.

I think he is still a good finisher close to the line and can find away to get across the line in traffic where others would fail.

But I think his kick return and red zone rucking out has been affected by the body mass he has dropped this year and that would certainly be affecting the statistics...I don't see a lack of effort, commitment or interest from him but he is not the footballer he was in his heyday and not likely to get anywhere that level again.

That still makes him our best winger at present...but I actually see Ross, if he can maintain his effort and even improve a notch more, actually surpassing him this year as our number 1

Apart from John's form in 2001, I don't think I have seen a player play as well as Mad Dog did in 2000 wjhen he moved to fullback. He was constantly shrugging off 2,3 and 4 players just about every time he brought the ball back. It got to the point where opposition teams kept coat hanging him and giving away penalties to try and reduce his impact.

Jarryd Hayne 2009 was the most outrageous form i've ever seen

Terry Campese had a ridiculous stretch of form, may have been around 2010.

Ya'll giving the credit to Mad Dog GTFO out of here, short memories guys?

I think Uate's brilliant run of form had little to do with doogs.

I don't have to watch that video to remember what Aku in his prime was like.

I'm afraid watching the video may lead me to run to the nearest sharp object and start hacking at my wrists given what's left of Aku
