It's going to be a controversial one with some, but I know D10 will understand where I'm coming from.

I have a lot of problems with their foreign policy, gun laws, and their welfare setup, but I've always wanted to experience life growing up in America.

Growing up with little league or peewee hockey, attending 4th of July BBQs, pep rallies, Thanksgiving parades etc just strike me as something I'd have loved as a kid.

 Love the bolded part.

But for the rest, I agree with you. I've actually wanted to experience the same. They're by no means a perfect country. But their culture interests me.

Playing baseball as a kid at a local park, BBQ houses, NFL MLB NBA NHL games and so forth. It's interesting to say the least.

Growing up to be a loud mouth arrogant shit with an aweful accent ?

pass

Not all Americans are loud mouth arrogant shits with an awful accent. Just like not all Aussies are toothless, drunk, bluding Mt.Druitt bogans with a dodgy accent...

I used to work with a guy from California, he moved to Australia and has been here ever since, because he couldn't stand his own people

I've met alot in my travels and met the occasional one I can persevere with but generally they suck

Everything we have they have more or a bigger one, they are brain washed into thinking the planet earth consists of America and other countries can go f**k themselves

I've always been fascinated by Jamaicans and their customs

There's you answer! He's dealing with Californian douchebags. If you settle into the more "traditional" areas it's amazing place.

If I was born into the same situation in the US as I was here than I would've been completely screwed for life so that influences my viewpoint.

Scandinavia probably for me.

Oooh, interesting. Like whall, if my family were in the same circumstances in America I'd be f**ked. Extremely f**ked. So probably Sweden. Swedish accent is the best accent.

If I grew up in the states I would have liked to have been captain of the football team and f**ked all the cheerleaders, even just being at college there looks pretty awesome with all their parties and girls gone wild shit.

Haha America would be closer to last on my list.

No idea on a favourite though... probably Europe somewhere. Narrows it down quite a bit, right?

Not sure. Would've liked to spend a few years growing up in Tonga, Africa or England just for the experience.

Sadly, that is becoming the global view of Aussies too :( *

*except when it comes to American women. They still gush for the Aussie drawl.

We cop shit because there was a period from 1990-2000 where Aussies were the 'king travelers' and everyone loved us.

Then we began to listen to our own press and read more Murdoch shit, which created this arrogance that is the anathema of Australian heritage.

If people ever needed any warning about the power and the danger of News Ltd, they need only look to the USA and see the differences between our culture and theirs closing at a rate of knots...

Yeah but aren't you going to Oklahoma or some shit?

I'm going to Montana State University, which, in it's self is a small state. But in a college town, they have a gridiron team that plays in NCAA DivII (Big Sky), ski field close by and more. By no means tame, but it's no Florida State.

Still, 15,000 students. Hawt girls. Plenty of frats/soro. I'm not complaining.

Scandinavia probably for me.

Possibly true of me too, given how poorly they pay their teachers.

Couldn't imagine myself being happy growing up somewhere perpetually cold, though.

If not the US, I'd probably have enjoyed being raised in a country like Spain or Italy.

It's also that we've got a very privileged group of older travelers out there complaining about how things aren't as good as they are in Australia.

Between the purple haired ladies (and their men) and the drunk bogans out to f**k anything that moves, I cringe more often than high five when I meet an Aussie on the road.

Not trying to discourage you, but the quintessential utopia that is stereotypical all American life is a fantasy and not reality here. When you get here, keep your eyes open, it's not the land of freedom. Even if everyone tells you so. They do that in North Korea as well...

Yeah, nah. Frats and sororities are by and large magnets for sociopaths.

Yep. There is an Australian who lives a block down from me and he leaves everyone he meets with a bad impression because of his chest beating and sleazy ways. I've had several Americans express relief that the wife and I are nothing like him.

Don't get too involved in that scene. See the wider world, travel a bit like you plan to!

Sadly true.

Canada goes alright, I imagine. It seems a lot like a colder Australia.

I wouldn't have minded growing up in New Zealand, to be honest. Beautiful country.

Oh, I'll travel and enjoy it. I've already got plans to see a few places.

Even with their flaws, Uni's in America are vastly more social and eventful than Aus Uni's. Mind you, I'm only paying a fraction of the costs, so no financial complaints on my end. But it is something I'm looking forward to.
