Would there be an opportunity to set up either a regional (New England) or national collegiate Rugby League competition?

Ridiculous that hypocrisy like this can exist in a developed county. Have you thought of informing the university that their coach is a pathetic bigot?

More importantly, why would the players want to play under a guy like this? I hope they tell him where to stick it.

University of Rhode Island Coach
banned all his players from playing league this summer.

Don't just chuck a hissy-fit. Take it up with the appropriate channels.

1. Get the views of the players on the matter, on paper and signed if possible.
2. Present the paper work to the boss of the union coach or higher if necessary, open a mediated dialogue and get him to justify his stance.
3. Prepare arguments to the predictable ones he will put forward regarding injuries.
4. Watch him squirm.

I am sure Rhode Island would have anti-discrimination laws and he is discriminating against rugby league.

What a joke. I hate people with this mentality. RI Uni Rugby isn't even division 1 college rugby, they will easily play better competition in the USARL than in their crappy division 2 New England Union division. I would think that Rebellion would be the ones who would have the power to tell their players not to play for RI university rugby union to avoid injury. I am willing to bet RIR is more professional, get more fans and play against better competition than any division 2 union team in the country.

Lawrence, keep your cool, keep emotion out of your argument and prove that you are a more professional club and that little union club should see it as a privilege to be associated with your team. It is key to keep your emotions in check. I've seen you respond to this forum in a less than professional manner(This is why I think most people hide their identity when hiding behind a keyboard and having petty but good natured arguments on the internet lol), so keep in mind you are representing rugby league in the US and get these guys!

You might be able to turn this into a victory for rugby league in the US in general.
Compare this to an arena football team telling their players that they can't play for an NFL team if they have the ability.

Fight a single uni that's let their dog off its leash and the whole lot may crumble down ;)

Be pretty cool after you win and others respond by wanting to start their own Uni/College RL teams eh?

If this bloke can't see the value in his players playing League then he is a dope! Look at some of the Canadian Union teams that are taking on League as another variant of Rugby and calling themselves All Rugby Clubs. I doubt there would be a single Union player who after having a crack at League, didn't return a better player.

Unless the URI coach is giving scholarships to his players, then its merely a suggestion. Its not like he can really do anything to them other than not let them play. I'm sure there are other teams in the area these guys can play for who will be more accommodating. Still its sad that a "kick and clap" coach can't see that league would benefit his players. I really feel sorry for the players. They are the ones being cheated.
