They can make you pay HECS, they tried to slug my aunt nearly 30k for her dual degree in one hit because she hadn't been earning enough to contribute through her tax. Paying it off early is absolutely the way to go, you get discounts (well, government/ATO contributions) on payments of 500 dollars or more and can wind up saving a significant amount in the long run

HECS/HELP is the only debt you'll ever have in your life which is indexed and you don't pay interest ... I'd hold onto that as long as you can while you pay off other debts. Of course, if you don't have other debts, sure, make some contributions to it.

And paying $30k in one hit sounds a bit suss ... it's based on a percentage of your debt up to a max of about 8% I think, did she have a hecs debt of a few mil?

They tried to slug her for her entire debt because of how long she's had it without paying, she loled at them and they worked out a payment plan. And tbh, I'd pay off as much of my HECS as I could before buying a house etc...just my opinion, but the contribution scheme for payments of 500+ dollars can save you a decent amount in the long run

Agreed. Your avatar offends me. It is discriminatory against those of us too poor to afford sunglasses. I ask that you please remove it for the sake of the children.

I dont like moi moi. I think his picture might scare children.

Fui is in my banner, not my avatar.

But that notwithstanding, I know you're lying. Everybody loves Fui. Specially kids - kids, of course, being his main source of sustenance and nutrition.

Uni is about tormenting me. Full time work in the field and full time law degree make t-ba go something something.

and in Law at least, it's about building a contact base for your career. In the last year I've gotten about 6 people jobs and I'll be damned if I'm not calling in those debts after I take off the rest of my 20's when I graduate to work overseas and I get admitted at 30.

Don't know much about TAFE. In the end, it's all about a job these days however.
