Unpopular Opinion

Yeah those try and try assist numbers, from a fullback, are particularly outstanding.

A lot of that was tip-ons or catch and pass stuff, maybe fairly simple looking stuff, but it’s no accident that those simple plays led to such stand out numbers. He executed at an unusually high level.

The tackle break numbers are super impressive too although the obvious counter argument was that he tended to run sideways a fair bit clocking up those tackle breaks. Nevertheless, he was one of those guys who was uncannily difficult to tackle and people forget that he also scored a number of tries he really wasn’t entitled to as well.

Definitely a unpopular decision in the fan base. Not with me, however. Tomkins was let down badly by a poorly coached and run team, and lack of support around him. And Locke was inconsistent because of the lack of professionalism in his preparation week to week. Yes his good games were memorable, but as you say his seasons were not - apart from 2011.

dead right on Locke. The goalpost collision back injury was the the beginning of the end for him because he didn’t have the professionalism to deal with the challenge of rehabbing himself back to proper fitness. He was fine as long as he was young and injury free and could rely on his natural speed and talent but didn’t have the attitude to dig himself out of a hole.

Tomkins replaced a guy who had two tries all year the season prior and had already been beaten out one preseason by Fish for the 1 Jersey only to get it back because Fish got injured.

Ended up being a decent upgrade tbh.

Coming into the comp being dubbed the English Billy Slater and then joining our rabble he was set up to fail from the start though.

Yeah it was the talk that he was the best that was the problem

Think I was one that criticised him too much but that was the context...

Guess it wasn’t as big an over hype as Matt Elliott being the SuperCoach

Has bugged us for some time. Johnson best in the world?

yep, lot of hype around the Warriors - without the substance... Johnson could be the best in the world if you looked at the odd game... the NRL is a hell of a grind, and week in week out most of the most hyped Warriors haven't delivered the consistency needed...

I have a ton of unpopular opinions, but I have aired them (the Rugby League ones, anyway) on here. Probably the most unpopular opinion that I have is that we've basically painted ourselves into a corner with Kearney and we have to stick it out for the duration of his contract.

how long has Kearney got to go anyway? One half-arsed shortened season? He’s on notice this year anyway, better just to play this one out with him and if he fails the end of season performance review he goes. But you’d hope that the club are at least putting feelers out for that eventuality.

The bring back Locke brigade is in full swing again on Facebook after that Instagram post he made.

Jesus. When was the last time Nobby even played a full season of first grade anywhere? I’d take him as a reserve grader and if he’s good enough to force his way up then sweet, bit that’d be about it.

Had just 2 seasons in his whole career with 20 or more first grade games, and one of those was 2011 (with 28 available games instead of 24, he played in 24) - both 2011 and 2013 he played 20 regular season games.

I can't remember word for word but it was something tagging the Warriors give me a shot, something along those lines when all the Thaiday, Gallen stuff was popping up

Has Locke turned into a big front-rower? Maybe he has, I haven't seen a picture of him since circa 2014.

Unpopular opinion- RTS appears to be an absolutely woeful captain and this should be his last year of it.

Who would you replace him with though? We've hardly got anyone knocking down the door to take over. Tohu too quiet, Blair too Blair. Maybe Jazz ...?

That's a good one, will incite opinion.

I don't necessarily agree. I wouldn't say he's a great captain but I don't think he's woeful at all. I also don't see what goes on week to week at training - I know he sets standards. Are we saying he's woeful because he doesn't talk to refs? Because he doesn't seem to be rousing his team enough?

Remember also, his woeful coach and the lack of quality in our squad is the reason we're losing. And that's hard for him to overcome. Does he have enough strong voices in the senior ranks around him? Probably not. And hell, I can't think of anyone I'd replace him with. Green is droppable and getting past it - 2,3 years ago I'd go him absolutely. Blair was a horrendous Kiwis captain. Harris, might not be a natural leader. There's no one else.
