According to Twitter anything you expressed past this point is irrelevant. Of course that's if you want to compare apples and apples. Twitter isn't even remotely similar to this website, or even mainstream social media websites (FB/LI etc).

Sorry but the argument that we shouldn't criticize any social media platform because we're using an entirely different social media platform is absolutely idiotic.

This. I don't have anything against Twitter or Facebook for that matter but i don't use either because i don't particularly enjoy what both mediums offer. There's certainly a place for both given their popularity but for me personally i couldn't care less for them.

As you rightly mentioned, forums like LU and others i frequent are absolutely nothing like Twitter and Facebook and any comparison made really is nothing short of geniused :crazy:

This is the first round I did it. I will be looking at the twitter accounts for the rest of the season and making a comparison. You have to have starting point somewhere.

With that in mind, I'd be interested to see round by round figures herein.

Also, I'm not sure of your background, if you're involved with a marketing agency, if you have any stroke etc, but it will be interesting to note if any clubs score significantly changes as a result of this weekend's study.

Finally any comment regarding why you deemed it important to use the players real names versus their twitter handles?

Could you rank the teams in number of followers too? Would be interesting to see who has the highest fanbase, at least in the twitter using segment of the market. And how their scores or how good they are at twitter correlates with their number of followers.

I can provide the follower numbers. I did record all those details.

My background...well I am a 19 year old, IT uni student. I am certainly not with any marketing agency. I am just a keen League fan who loves on Twitter. I am also apart of the League Unlimited match reporting team.

And when I said players name, there is no issue with a club using players twitter handles. Some clubs did not even include any names. Points were deducted when a club just said "Team has scored a try".

A few people have said whether any of the clubs have taken notice. The Bulldogs have with one of the social media members contacting me via Twitter. Along with the Dogs, the Cronulla Sharks Digital manager has also contacted me after posting this.

Meh. Twitter is dying. The NRL are too late, it's probably a waste of resources if anything.

Some people might dismiss social networking, but for a large chunk of young people, Facebook/twitter is a major information source. A lot of people my age (early 20s) don't watch the news on tv, watch little to no TV in general besides live sport (I know a lot of people who download 100% of the scripted tv they watch), they don't read newspapers. How well clubs handle social media can contribute to bringing in new fans.

For a lot of young people social media is the only way to reach them.

For the record, LWOS (the precursor to LU and its forums) was laughed at as a fad 12-odd years ago... it's still thriving in its form.

But it must be said, if some of those clubs in the bottom half are paying people to work solely in social media, they really should not.
