USE IT OR LOSE IT is officially dead (and other broadcast issues)

Fancy giving the top job to a deadsh*t mumbling clown. He wouldn't survive in the real world.

Get a CEO who knows what it takes to be a success. Bouris (Wizard), Aussie John Symonds, Holmes a Court, Greenberg, anyone.

The AFL will always be a step ahead because of their quality CEO and Club Presidents.

Well done Gallop.

Going from the Use it Or Lose It threat of several years ago to the limp wristed rubbish he came up with last night on the ABC.

There is obviously no plan to get the game on at a decent time going from his most recent comments.

I was hoping the Wok would ask him about the next TV deal and the possibility of getting more consistent and better coverage in Melbourne - like the AFL do up here.

His answer would have undoubtedly included the word "balance"

I don't want to state the obvious here but David Gallop is ultimately the one responsible for our inconsistent viewing and coverage in Melbourne. What putting a 1950's movie on does is ensure the AFL on the night dominate the market. 99% chance they would anyway but what do the NRL or CH 9 have to lose? If the network wanted better ratings they would have put on a decent movie ffs.

The ridiculous thing is - there is NO AFL game on Sunday! Sure, there's a VFL semi final which a handful of sports fans might tune into but it starts at 1pm so even that's over by 3.45pm... how Nine think a 1950s movie would outrate a live NRL final is beyond belief.

Having some industry knowledge, the reason they don't want to show the game is the 5.30pm half hour which is the lead in to the news. Showing a crappy old movie might not do much for them between 3-5.30pm but in the 5.30 half hour they can show Postcards, which gets half decent ratings. This is the same reason Seven refused to show the much anticipated Geelong v St Kilda game (both teams had won 14 from 14 leading into it) live into Sydney or Brisbane.

But they still showed live AFL into Sydney and Brisbane on that particular afternoon anyway.

Big difference.

More great words from Gallop today on the Offsiders re: coverage in Melbourne.

nothing has changed in 10 years yet he says it has

and he seems to like the idea of it being on after midnight as that's better than it being seen earlier and getting low ratings

we are going to get shafted again next rights deal

An absolutely disgraceful answer from a bloke supposedly running the game.

The coverage RL gets on FTA in Melb is no different to what they got pre-Storm.

C'mon David, it's not too late to throw your weight around on this issue.

It is written into the contract.

Show some balls if you're going to be the game's CEO for the new 4 years or however long your cushy new will go for.

What is actually in the contract? that is has to be before midnight? So they could screen the first game at 11.59 and be satisfying the contract? (given my last two Friday nights/lack of sleep i'm well aware that isn't happening lol)

Mr Gallop said if Ch 9 didn't live up to its contract obligations (which it rarely does) then games could shown on SBS or possibly the ABC.

It's great how he followed up that one. When quizzed about it down the track, he just went in to bat for Ch 9 making excuses for them after inititally playing hard ball.
