Vai Toutai

Vai would at most be on $100k per season. He ain't no winger.

thats the whole thing - he doesn't have the pace or athleticism current day wingers need

its all well and good to have a big boppa that can take some hitups from dummy half, but the current day winger is more like an edge fullback - he's gotta take plenty of high kicks, he's gotta turn and cover ingoals and he's gotta make lots of decisions about defensive reads and finally he's gotta have the ability to finish athletically in the corners (it is a massive part of the game now)

edge fullback - get that into ya pou!!

For me its not about scapegoats its simply about facts. The fact is Toutai is not a winger and to persist with him is stupid. Maybe we have to at the moment because of circumstances but they better be looking for better options in the future because seriously he does my head in. Most shit wingers would of scored that try he bombed. So that must tell you how bad he is. This seems to have been our problem for a long time now to persist with players that obviously are not up to it. Dont get me wrong there were a handful of other players out there last night that were not up to it. If we are serious about becoming a force in this competition again we must get ruthless and piss these useless players off. We are just plain dumb it we dont

In all seriousness, you have been on this forum for how many years, made how many posts, read how many threads? And you still haven't realised that most posters only come here to put shit on the team or blow smoke up their asses?

Balanced discussion requires some level of dis-passionate, dis-attachment from the events being discussed and you want find that here - ever.

Sad but true. However I'll keep banging my head against the wall because I've grown to love it.

That's bullshit. There are plenty of players currently in the team who won't be here next year. Why should Sio get singled out?

Because he has poor tackle busts and doesnt ruck it out well.

Hayne wont be allowed to play next year as we have younger fullbacks who have already signed on. Hunt.

Just watching the highlights and toutai's one handed put down.... What can you say... Everyone knows you need to slide / dive. Do these guys even attend training? Hopeless.

I don't mind Vai , he just doesn't seem to have the full set of skills for a winger. But he makes good metres and is hard to tackle.

He seems to me to be a back rower playing in the backs as he is a little quicker then the average forward.

Welcome everyone to this week's scapegoat thread.

I dont like to diss our players, except Sandud, I think Vai is OK but not a winger and I would use him as a back up centre because as an NRL players, I dont see him being good enough to make us a top 4 team.

Squad player only, and he is only playing because of the Sio "situation"

What's the Sio "situation"? What has he done?

Daniel Anderson ??

I don't think you can blame just one person, I think EVERYONE who has been responsible for recruitment and retention, from Hagan onwards, can all be blamed for the situation we're in and from the re-signings of players like Vai Toutai it appears it is going to continue.

Physically, Vai Toutai is an absolute beast. The club obviously believes they can improve his skills, which is why he was re-signed for three years.

Yes, but as has been proven the Club has made some poor recruitment and retention decisions in the past, the current mob can talk all they like, their results on recruitment and retention can only be shown by what we do in the coming years. It doesn't make Vai Toutai a good re-signing

Every player is potentially a good or bad signing depending on his price, which we as fans never know. Players may also be bad signings simply because they are redundant (or make others redundant) - i.e. where the club has too many players at one position and not enough at others, which we (the fans) do know.

Which of these do you think apply to Vai Toutai? Do we have too many outside backs for next year or is he just on too much? Do you think just because he is playing first grade at the moment that he is in our highest paid 17 players next year?

I've got a feeling Toutai will be competing with Goodall and Morgan for two spots in next year's top 17. Either that or Morgan has one centre spot locked up and Toutai will be fighting Goodall for the final wing spot.

As for why Goodall hasn't played first grade this year, the answer is the salary cap.

I think you are right Pou but you must admit he is playing out of position at wing. If we are to persevere with him I would give Vai a run at centre before Morgan.

I hear we are still after a centre and Inu is still on the cards.

Well question is, who is going to play Left Centre next year if it's not Morgan?

Well the real question is how many of the other 15 NRL clubs were banging down Vai Toutai's door for him to sign?
