It is with much regret that the New South Wales Rugby League Referees Association announces the passing of Leslie George Matthews today 2nd January 2009 after a short illness.

Les Matthews has been a member of the New South Wales Rugby League Referees Association for over 30 years. Les was awarded Life Membership of the association in 1986 and has been the Association Secretary from 1990 - 2008. Les has also received life membership of the New South Wales Rugby League, The Canterbury District junior Rugby League and also the Canterbury Bankstown Rugby League Referees Association. He has also been honoured with Life Membership of the Mount Prichard Cricket Club.

Les’s continuous support of the Association for over 30 years will be sadly missed by all who had contact with him.

Funeral details will be advised as soon as confirmation is received.
