Not always, particularly in a situation like this. Compo claims are settled out of court all the time and once it's done, it's over. Promising a bloke he can host a programme for the rest of his life is fraught with commercial danger. You might give someone a job for life if you can hide them out the back and be sure they won't do anything wrong. Fatty is front and centre. You don't promise people they can keep that job. Contrary to popular belief, not even Rabs and Richie are above getting booted off air.

Paying someone a few million to go away is much easier than paying them a few million to do a bad job.

I think what is forgotten about the footy show is that it isn't really made for hardcore footy fans. They are already watching the games on nine and reading newspapers/magazines, playing supercoach, and all that stuff. The footy show is there to catch people that like The Block and Big Brother and to give the NRL, nine, and their sponsors some crossover with a different audience.

Hardcore footy fans have foxtel and their footy magazine shows are more serious. Nobody watches Sterlo or NRL360 unless they are footy heads. FTA has a broader audience. The Game Plan was meant to be a serious footy show on FTA - it failed.

Not sure what It's rating were like. But did it actually fail, or did 10 just cut it since they lost out on the NRL rights and just cut it due to their financial issues? It's a shame either way because it was far better than the "Footy"show.
