Melbourne is growing faster for the same reason brisbane grew in the 90s. If housing in melbourne ever reaches parity with sydney as far as cost goes people will just move to Sydney.

You are talking rubbish lmao. The median house price in sydney is some 200k more than melbourne. That is driving a huge chunk of melbournes growth. Ive thought seriously about moving to melbourne for that reason.
As others have pointed out, any time you're attempting to extrapolate a current trend even 5 years into the future - let alone bloody 40 like this - you might as well not bother given how much can affect those trends.

For instance, the current growth "rate" doesn't take into account the effect of all the infrastructure work being done in Sydney and the growth and employment that badgeries creek in particular will generate.

Auckland has officially put itself forward as a potential host. Deserves equal consideration to Brisbane and Melbourne IMO, and would allow each city to host one GF during the construction period. Only downside would be an earlier kick off time but an 8pm kick off would still mean 6pm for live coverage in the Eastern States, which should keep broadcasters happy enough.

I cant see why nrl gf can't be Sydney, Brisbane, Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne. Repeat but Auckland instead of Melbourne on a ten year cycle.

The thing we should actually be waiting on is the actual plans for how they are going to do the renovations at ANZ Stadium first. There is a possibility that, depending on how they do the construction, that the ground may not be closed completely, only parts of it. Even Todd Greenburg said they would wait and see. As such all this may be very premature to say the least.

Officials plan to conduct the redevelopment in stages, with the ground?s capacity remaining about 50,000 during the redevelopment phase before it is fully operational again in 2022. However, the NRL has made it clear it has no plans to play the grand final in a construction zone, meaning alternative venues need to be found.

If it's going to be permanently shared I'd rather see it just go to home adavantage for the top seeded finalist.

But I'm pretty comfortable with it staying in Sydney once ANZ is upgraded, and just using the construction period as an opportunity to give the other three cities a one-off chance to host.

Another option would be to revert to home state venue during the construction period, with Allianz getting the game if a Sydney side are hosts.

If ANZ is MIA for 3 years then easy, 1 year in Melbourne, 1 year in Brisbane, 1 year in Auckland.

That would be fantastic for the game, and the bidding process will drive further revenue for the NRL.

This really will be excellent for Rugby League all round if that's how it plays out.

Melbourne is growing faster. Melbourne is far better positioned to be a major city of 10 million people than Sydney.

Melbourne's population is growing slightly faster (for now). The construction of infrastructure and CBD development however, is miles behind Sydney.

As a Melbournian. I initially found it odd fir Melbourne to host the NRL GF. But it has grown on me in the past week. But it'd be **** if it was held the same weekend as the AFL GF. I would maximise it's potential as an event if it had the build up of a whole week to itself.

4 years on the road to Brisbane, Melbourne, Auckland and possibly Perth before moving back to the 'spiritual home' of the gf in Sydney would be absolutely massive for the code. Imagine the hype?

Yep, I love the idea of taking a GF to the new Perth Stadium too. It would be an astronomical boost for the game over there and would be a priceless shot-in-the-arm for an expansion team in the West, if that is indeed the NRL's plan.
Arrange for the various host cities to promote the event to the hilt, a-la Melbourne with the AFL Grand Final, and it would be like Australia's very own Superbowl.
Hopefully an auxiliary effect of this will be Sydney's treating this event with a lot more reverence when it eventually comes back to the Harbour City, rather than some cringe-worthy cash-cow.

Definitely Brisbane for one year.........................................and Chatswood Oval would also be very convenient for me for one year.

Play it up at Suncorp till the Sydney stadium is finished. f**k Melbourne - they've got their code already. Probably get a few people going in Vic out of curiosity ala Origin, but QLD deserves it far more, and the people of QLD actually give a shit about rugby league.

If they play it in Melbourne all we will hear about it some yahoo yelling out during the anthem or something.

The Vics will be holding candlelit vigils in Fed Square.

We'll see how serious the ARLC is about growing the game if Brisbane, Melbourne, Auckland and/or Perth get the opportunity to host a GF.

and you lot call Victorians insular.....

I'm an NRL fan first and foremost these days and have been for a long time now and while i still follow Aussie Rules, i don't like the establishment that runs it and a massive upside of the NRL GF being played down here would be it would piss them off no end.

If there were no renovations going on at ANZ i'd say absolutely no way in the world the GF should be moved from there or Sydney in general. Though given that's not the case it wouldn't be the worst idea in the world from both a monetary and growing the game perspective to play it one of those years in Melbourne.

Absolutely not more than one year, share it around as has been mentioned several times on here for the next 3 years or so and take it back to where it rightfully belongs for at least 20 years and longer. IMO it'll only make the game stronger in the long term.
