won't someone please think of the angles!
It can happen, all you would have to do is mark where the ball was thrown and where the ball was taken .
for example: the ball 1meter from the 20meter line and the player catches it 1.3 meters from the 20meter line.
so say your 5 meters from half way all you do is calculate how far was the ball thrown from that line and how far was it caught from that line
won't someone please think of the angles!
On another matter.
Refs and linesmen.
The ref in the world challenge was great when it came to awarding tries...no going to the video ref( I hope Archer was watching the game)
Linesmen are a waste of time, they don't ever seem to see forward passes. What the hell are they there for?
You do realise that even though a ball is passed backwards it still travels in a forward direction.
Obviously you didn't even study basic physics in high school.
so are you saying every pass travels forward or are you trying to say the ball can travel forward off a pass that is considered backwards, then all you would have to do is have a wider line from where the player passes the ball to see if it travels backwards from his hands or not.
Its definately not as hard as you think to judge a forward pass off a tv screen, just look at super league with there lines on a goal kickers attempt at goal and distance they have to cick from.
so what was that comment for? well did i make a statement on physics did I?
I cant see where i said a ball cannot travel forward from a backward pass or maybe you just assume i meant that as obviously as a parra supporter you assume when you keep trying to buy the comp you will actually win one
This forward, backward releasing by the hands is just a ploy to justify the referees' decisions on the plethora of forward passes that result in tries every weekend. we need lines across the field every 10 metres to see if the trajectory of the pass travels in a forward motion. The linesmen have the power to rule on forward passes but rarely do so, referees hate nothing more than an upstart linesman picking up an obvious forward pass that the ref ignored or missed. I believe forward passes to be the greatest blight in our game, and something needs to be done them.I believe video ref should be allowed to rule on a forward pass.
Because they dont really need to rule on the projectory of the ball just the hands and if they were forward/backward and the pass is released
I love comments like this about touch judges and refs. Please point us to the comp where all these vastly more competent touch judges are currently hiding. It would be much cheaper to hire some compentant touch judges instead of the do nothing star gazers we currently have
It's all based on physics. If you a player is running at full speed and throws a pass backwards or even sideways it will travel forward because if a player is running forward the momentum of their forward motion will carry onto the ball after it is passed meaning it will reach the recieving player in front of where the passing player throws the ball from.
If a player is running full at full speed after a line break and throws a long backwards off the hands cut out pass to the sideline even though thrown backwards it will travel up to 10 metres forward in the air simply because of the players momentum when running at full speed.
So you need to take physics into account when judging this, and if you don't understand that then there was a brief lesson for you.
I understand what you are getting at there but every pass is not forward as of offloads do not travel in a forward motion when i player is held is ground and offloads to another player on the burst or when there is a scrum and dummy half play the bal lwont travel foward if the player who passes it is not moving in that direction and are stationary.
so again how is every pass forward?

I never said every pass is forward. Every pass thrown while a player is running forward though will move forward. Hence why it cannot really be determined by marking lines because by marking lines all it will show is the ball is in front of where it was thrown from but that is not necessarily a forward pass. So how do you incorporate this into using a 'line marking' situation?
