Video Refs at it again

I defy anyone to show me how that try to the Roosters should ahve been awarded. And then later, the Warriors got the benefit of the doubt for one that was clearly a try.

FMD, I don't often bags on-field refs but how these blokes up in the video boxes can watch a dozen replays from all angles and still get it so wrong so often is beyond me.

I didnt see it, but heard the Kiwi commentators blowing up deluxe when it happened. I just assumed it was Kiwi bias and continued cooking the steak and garlic prawns.

I do hate the forensic science aspect of the game after a try is scored. Players now use dubious techniques to see if it works in the letter of the law (like Barber's try last year). Spectacular -yes. But the element of control and pecision over luck? Pretty much gone.

The 2nd one was clearly a try. I don't have any issue with simultaneous grounding of the ball if it actually looks like it. I didn't think it did in the first instance.

I thought that Linnett clearly scored in the game afterwards in just getting his hand to the ball before Uate. In fact based on the replays that I saw I know that he did. So how Steve Clark came up with a drop out to Uate is beyond me.

Honestly, the standard of officiating this year is an embarrassment for the game. It is totally shambolic. The Roosters/Warriors game was a joke and I don't blame Braith for getting so frustrated. Our game last week was a total farce. It is unbelievably frustrating.

video refs should get a maximum of 3 slow mo replays in total...

if you can't work it out from there, it's ref's call..

the game worked pretty damn well for 90 odd years without a video ref..

so if you've got all kinds of technology & video angles available and you're still getting the decision wrong, at least let the bloke in the middle make the bad call..

Is there any call Anasta doesn't complain about?

What was more annoying was, he just kept going on and on. Make your point then bugger off. It aint going to change.

Yeah I found it a bit odd that the video ref saw any doubt in that last Warriors try. In theory the video system is good but unfortunately they have absolute geniuss manning the controls.

It's really becoming a toss of the coin as to what is and isn't a try in the NRL. I follow the Warriors closely and have seen some shockers given against them this season and some shockers given to them.
The point is i have played the game. I've followed it since i was a kid and i can honestly say i have no idea what is and isn't a try anymore when the on field refs send tries up to the video refs to decide.

The Leilua try was clear cut as he had the ball in his forearm while the Warriors hooker was just diving at it, the ball was touching his muscles. It was simultaneous at worst, and I always thought Leilua had more control over it. In saying that, the Johnson try was also a definite. I'm just glad they sent the benefit to the attacking teams.

You can't even see the football in that frame? But cute attempt, Leilua's arms are around the ball while your hookers arms are flailing in front of him. More control there!

I have no issue with either try been awarded BOTD or not.

The 1st try both players had an arm wrapped around the ball as they went to ground.

Simple ruling on the Leilua try - they both grounded the ball at the same time - Leilua with his hand, Mara with his torso.

As such, benefit of the doubt goes to the attacking team, in this case the Roosters. Try every day of every week.

What was your opinion on the disallowed Moga try? While the video ref was looking at it the Kiwi commentators said they thought the Rooster fans would be pleased with the upcoming decision.

Being a Rooster fan I thought the Warriors had the best of the refs decisions in this game and so did Brian Smith who will probably receive a $10,000 fine calling the refereeing " diabolical."

How about when the ball goes over the dead ball line. The onfield ref orders a drop out but the video ref then tips him to change the decision to a 20m tap.

Players also lay down in tackles to get the right decision from a head high contact. That's all great.

So how come when there is a blatant strip in the tackle and everyone sees it on replay before the scrum the video referee can't tip that one?

The first one was a definite no-try. Mara got there fractionally ahead of the ugly merkin from the Roosters, assumed possession, as they went to ground, merko touches on the ball... if you are going to give that a try, it will open up a massive can of worms. Fullbacks getting trapped in goal will have to make sure the ball is up off the ground incase a fluky opponent at the same time has a fingernail on the ball. Going off last nights ruling, that would be classed as a try, simultaneous put down, attacking player gets the oranges. Last night's decision made no allowance for the fact that Mara had possession of the ball first.

Knock on, Minichiello touches it first, goes into Ropati's shoulder and then goes backwards. No try.
