LOL @ all these Blues fans throwing shit on Harrigan. Is this not the same man who you lot worshipped as a God when he sent Tallis from the field??

lol yes, one correct decision several years ago definitely makes up for some of the worst calls in the past decade

]I watch more sport than anyone I know.

I watch NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB, EPL, La Liga, ESL, Super 15, AFL and all forms of cricket.

I cannot think of a single one of them that has this sort of problem with officiating, and the worst part is besides AFL ours is undoubtedly the easiest sport to referee out of the lot of them.

It is an embarrassment how bad our refs are, and listening to Harrigan explain away one of the most clear cut incorrect decision of all time with mindless drivel just confirms that our refs are actually being COACHED to be this way.

Harrigan must be removed from the game.

Completely agree with this.

Another problem is that the refs are always in the limelight, you may blame the media or the NRL for this but I get the feeling they like it. Besides cricket where the umpires are iconical I would be flat out naming another official in any of those sports you mentioned.

In other words the NHL, NBA, AFL etc. is about the players, the NRL is about the officials.

This is now a precident set. According to this decision we now have to look at every knock-on that could have been tripped, knocked out, kicked out, bumped or dislodged in anyway in super slow motion to judge brain reaction and intent at playing at the ball. If we are going to judge that decision like that then we need to judge every decision like it. It was an absolute bullshit call and anywhere else on the field or in any game lower than NRL it's knock on no questions asked, I doubt even the player who dropped it would complain. But now we have these bullshit complicated calls that can only be judged in super slow motion so now, to be consistent, every decision in the NRL should be judged like that.

Honestly I can't think of anything, apart from salary cap scandals, that have caused as much controversy and pissed fans off as much as video referees. Referees, sure, forward pass calls and penalties are made in the heat of the moment, they can be let go. Video referees look at the same damn replay for 5 minutes and still get half of them wrong! If it causes this much controversy I'm not sure it's even worth having. The referees will make less wrong decisions than the video ref, even looking at it with their own eyes in real time.

It's come to the point where the video has directly changed too many rules for the worse, where NRL is barely even rugby league anymore because of it. Judging decisions on 1000ths of a second and brain reaction, f**k me where have we got to...

His name escapes me atm, but that Roll-on Deodarant Head from the EPL is pretty well known amongst followers.

I'm sure an AFL supporter could name some of referees too.

But you are still right, even the lesser lights are well known in the NRL. I could rattle off about a dozen refs names. Mainly just from watching the Sunday Roast, where every week there are ref's getting blasted left right and centre. The ref's mic has definitely made them more annoying too, most of the them try and put on a show, rather than just officiate the game. When a captain makes a legitimate point (like Gallen Wednesday), they just usually shrug it off.

Well that's just not true. The EPL has massive problems with refereeing.

The smaller teams get f**k all calls for them against the bigger teams and nearly every team that goes to the Trafford swamp gets done over.

I'm not saying the reffing in the NRL is good, because it's not, but it's not the only sport where the refs constantly f**k up.

Its not as blatant though IMO. Refs simply do not have as big an impact on the result of games in the EPL.

They'll be fairly biased in awarding free kicks and yellow cards and the infamous "Sir Alex time" etc, but you don't see absolute bullshit penalties or offside goals awarded on a weekly basis, which is about the equivalent of the negative influence our current refs have on games at the moment.

They aren't perfect, but from my viewing their effect on the result of a game is generally much lower than in the NRL.

I was livid at the time but I have accepted the decision now.

But I feel the VR has set an extremely dangerous precedent by 'guessing' (for want of a better word) the intentions of players. How could he judge that Farah definitely played at the ball but Inglis definitely didn't? It has come to the point where they are judging what the players are thinking, and I feel that attempting to do that will create far more problems than it will solve.
Also they way the VR is in use right now creates inconsistencies in rulings. It really should be all or nothing. I would prefer they bring back the in-goal judge and f**k the VR off.

If you also saw Billy Slater's try in around the 53rd minute last night against the Broncos...he knocked that ball on too..and hohum was awarded with another fake try.

To be fair though, EPL refs over see what 2-3 goals per game on average and the majority of those are clear cut. NRL refs adjudicate over 8-10 tries most games and many need to be examined for one reason or another (particularly ones from kicks). I think they got the call wrong on the Inglis try but to say the NRL refs make more mistakes than any other game is laughable.
