What happened with Hasler at the Bulldogs though? I hear not so good things about him. Im sure they were calling for his head. His dogs team had some good names too. Upon looking him up on wikipedia, I noticed he won 2 premierships (I thought he had only 1) as coach and has had plenty of success but I'd sure like to know what happened in Canterbury.
Dunno, but the Dogs have gotten worse without him, despite finally moving Mbye to his best NRL position and getting Hoppa jnr out of the spine (TBF he was better in 2017 than previously) and somewhat freeing up Lichaa to play to his strengths.
I suspect a lot of the Dogs problems surrounded the football department and specifically recruitment/retention - signing guys who didn't fit Hasler/the squad, overpaying & backending guys to create messy cap situations (clearly Hasler had something to do with the latter, as it happened at Manly also - though I doubt he had much to do with replacing Ennis with Lichaa etc). The cap stuff obviously isn't an issue in rep footy, so doesn't really bother me when recruiting for the Kiwis job.
Anyway, I wouldn't mind any of those 4 mentioned except Daley, who really doesn't impress me. The point of opening it up (as it should have been...) to non-Kiwi coaches is to get a guy with a great resume... Daley doesn't compare to the others, I think. If we're looking at guys without NRL experience, ignore the recognisable name and go for Jason Demetriou - the guy is a winner, with Brennan now at the Titans there's no question left, he's easily the best coach to have no yet coached NRL imo.
(but I'm happy with the experienced guys mentioned)
