I wouldn't say those 6 were all world/international class though - Whare is a standout - but guess my comment was based on we had a backrower and a fringe first grader playing - none of the others are world beaters either...

anyway, Luke plays we might get more go forward - but playing backrowers and reserve grades in the centres, backrowers as hooker, etc is strange...

For the amount of players missing it really is impressive against a full strength Australian team with a Fijian ring in.
The short prep and major disruption to our spine not helpful.
We could put together a team with all of our injuries/non selection form/drug use to play our team and probably win.
RTS/Foran/Johnson/Luke is a great spine.
Boyd/Thursdan/Cooper/Smith have played over 20 times together in Origin and for Australia. They should of killed us.
We had no fire power and need at least 2 xfactor style players to make a threat!

Please someone put Johnson in a room with 10 big forwards and let them tackle him for a whole hour every day, so he gets use to it. He seems to be scared to be tackled.

Benji won't be back ever, they obviously have a rule in place that if player won't be there for the 2017 world cup they will not be considered.
I doubt this is just Kearneys call, but may have come out of the review.

I'm enjoying the rep round, sounds like magic at Parra. Nice to have a stress-free weekend without the Warriors too.

I agree...or put him in a room where, disinfranchised fans can get him to harden up.

This pretty much summed it up for me, on paper this time round you have thought they would have torn us apart, but that never really happened. Kearney should be proud and Mel must be looking to change the team a bit for next time.

I think this is old thinking. We're not the easy beats of the past and we had enough players floating around even after the injuries to win that match. That we didn't was in huge part due to the selectorial decisions for this match and in general if comments such as this are true:

Shutting the door on any player is stupid. Benji will likely be playing in 2017 and he'll likely be playing better than anyone we can put up if Foran and SJ aren't there. Lets look at Brad Thorn, if the All Black selectors were as small minded as Kearney and Co then Thorn would never have been a key forward for a number of years and be an integral part of the 2011 world cup win.

There were players watching that game on TV or in the stands that could have brought more to that team than some of the players on the field. Kiwi fans have got a victim mentality where we get smacked around so often that we just believe it's normal, it's not, we should be beating that Kangaroos team and we should have beaten England last year, that we didn't is down to selection decisions.

I'm not for the policy, but suspect it will be in place till end of world cup and then reviewed based on the result.
We also don't know what happened with Benji behind the scenes as he also lost captaincy.

As for the positive on the negative result, I look at the spine as a major (bit not only) factor in who should win a game.
If I was to pick a winning team out of the two squads to take on anyone in the world, I would not have swapped any Aussies for Kiwi in those positions on current form.
The realisation Aussie had a better team in the park and could only put 16 points on us with a huge amount of possession and in our 20m is a testament to our defense, they had strike weapons everywhere.

Our main one was still playing in a dinner suit affraid to get tackled.

The Luke non selection was of his own doing with his statement. If he had shut up, I am sure he would of been there.

What?

So leading up to this test you wouldn't have thought about including Jessie Bromwich or Jason Taumalolo? Bollocks. You wouldn't put Taupau on the bench? You'd include the normally useless version of Tamou over any of the Kiwi prop rotation? (Trust Tamou to actually have a good game this time round).

I'll give you the backs, but then every team we roll out against Aussie we have worse backs.

Luke's comments mean nothing, Kearney selects the side, all he had to do was tell Luke to STFU and pick him. But he didn't, and that was a key reason we had no structure and couldn't score a point against the Kangaroos. Seriously, what has Kenny Bromwich done to deserve a test cap, other then be Jesse's brother?

Your posts belie your username sometimes....
Why because I don't follow the party line of Kiwis and Warriors fans in this place? If you want to hurl an insult at me for having an opinion different from yours then go right ahead.

The bar is set too low in NZ league and no one gives a shit when the low bar isn't reached. I expect more and am sick of hearing pat excuses.

The Kiwis could have put out a better team than they did on the weekend but they didn't through a combination of stupidity, pettiness, and arrogance.

Not selecting Luke was ridiculous

But he was going to be picked on reputation rather than form. That wouldn't be the first time the Kiwis have done that (i.e. Olly Filipaina from Balmain reserve grade to marking Wally Lewis) but those players have to show, or at least tell, the coach they want to play. Bully seemed to do neither.

I was responding to what you did to another poster that you are now pulling me up on. Matua means some thing to me as I'm sure it does to you. No insult intended & I apologise unreservedly for that.

I think that low bar you talk about has been set a lot higher than its ever been & some don't reach the mark. Luke will make a difference but even he by his own admission has dropped below it. I'm also sure he'll be there when the time comes

That's how our selectors roll though..

Form means nothing, it's all about how they traveled last year..

Ok, I was discussing the spine, so that is 1,6,7 and 9.
No I would not of had any of the kiwi SPINE in a team of champions shall we call it.

When it comes to the forwards it's a complete different kettle of fish and there are not many forwards from Aussie I would pick.

Luke's comment means everything, it was made publicly, not in private.
To me it forced Kearney's hand.
If done privately Kearney may of had a chance to talk Luke around or stated the confidence he had in him to pull on the Black jumper step up a few gears.

This may also be part of the new policy too?
If you say you aren't good enough, you are normally right.
I would of had Luke in the team, but with the outburst I'm 50/50 on the call to leave him out, but have to go with the professionals and those that know a lot more than me.
