Pompey looks the best kicking option in our side.
i would argue Taine is. If you watched him in NSW cup he had a very high percentage, and then in that Penrith game last year, he was perfect all game, then clutch hitting it from the sideline to win the game. I wish they would give him a go. Metcalf is either on or off from game to game. I dont like that sort of inconsistency. It didnt cost us last night but it could have. Lucky that last kick was straight in front.

At the end of the day we toiled away and got away with a win due to Broncos like Hunt and Walsh derping all game.
Which might be how our season goes. Benefiting from the other teams mistakes or lack of execution. When a team executes (like Storm did last week) we can get carved up.

a bit harsh on the coaching at least yesterday. I thought we played and stuck to a pretty good gameplan, including the halves, though their attack was limited as usual. When Brisbane did score it was mainly due to individual derp moments from us rather than flaws in our structure.

Webby is currently getting results out of a mid roster with close to $3M in cap sidelined through injury, that deserves credit.
Nah you're absolutely right. Coaching is defense too and that looks good right now...our usual derp v Melbourne apart.

I agree. I can only think Metcalf kicks because he's the one who is in the side week to week and TT/Pompey aren't necessarily in our full strength side. But Metcalf is doing roles he doesn't look natural in - field kicking, goal kicking and playing 7 + organizing. He's clearly a project of Webster's, which is working for now because things around him are solid.

Yeah, the Broncos aren't much off what they were last year. 600+ games in the halves, the pretty boy marquee fullback, some big Origin forwards, pace and skill on the flanks but they haven't really got out of 2nd gear all season. Don't look like a team playing for each other, whereas we are.
I feel Maguire is an old school hard nosed coach that a lot of these, shall we say younger softer players are not use to hearing some home truth's and are not mentally tough enough for it.

One of the key things this year though is that we're rewarding all that toil & muscling-up with tough narrow wins - last season blew almost every game like this.

I'm convinced we have a really solid core that, if mistakes are down, we will physically challenge most opponents and win the battle in the middle. This is basically Webbyball.

Our biggest hole is our 5th tackle options, where other than the barge-over and "creative" plays (... or flukes), we have absolutely nothing. Johnson was the cherry on top in '23, and the closest equivalent I believe we have is TMM.

I think a lot of us agree wholeheartedly with this.

We have 118 points for this year, which apart from the woeful Knights on 60 (!) and Eels on 79, is close to bottom 4 (Rabbits have 117 and Cows 116)

Yes our defense (Storm apart, and the Raiders which feels like 3 seasons ago) has been really good, but if we're trying to get to the 8 and win 1 or 2 of those games, it feels like we somehow need to make it work in the opposition's 20. I'm not saying CHT and Metcalf need to go, because they won't...but maybe an injury in there, would prompt TMM 7 and the other guy 6?

I'm wondering whether we need to think about Taine 1, CNK 2 because the great yardage plays CNK makes can be achieved there. And people talk about CNK's defensive organisation, but I didn't see any issue with that on Saturday night.

Just finished this on delay from the UK

It's games like this one that make me thankful for picking Warriors as my NRL team!! Tuaupiki is so slippery in the wet...maybe every time it rains we have him at 1 regardless of who else is in the match day squad?

Looked bloody cold there ....isn't it still summer down there?

It’s the middle of Autumn. It’s actually warm here, but wet and windy.

The coldest games I remember at Mt Smart were never the wet ones - they were the ones on clear nights in mid winter with a southerly breeze blowing. Still nothing like you get further south though.

I was at the 2010 game in Christchurch v the Roosters where Brain Smith got his troops got drinks at half time haha. Think the day peaked at around 2-3 degrees
