Absolutely stoked. Such a calm, disciplined and sensible performance. Even overcoming things like Hiku's injury were seamless. I had my doubts (like many others!) but extremely happy to be proven wrong.

The Dragons might not be the best barometer at the moment but even so the confidence boost will be immense.

Side note - did Karl Lawton look a lot bigger to anyone else? He's not looking so much like a nippy dummy half any more, with the beard he was almost channeling good old Mannering in the centres.

I thought exactly the same thing about Lawton too

So typical, the time I can't watch the Warriors, they turn into a competent team.

I was really excited yesterday, but with reflection I am worried that I over reacted - despite having a quality team on paper, the Dragons offered nothing... did they make us look much better than we are?

Great win and hopefully a chance to build some form and more importantly some confidence for our guys. I really liked Tohu in the middle and the fact guys were running off him...more of that please.
Great minutes out of Papalli, Tohu and Katoa will really help our sub rotations and accordingly King and Agantius looked very good off the bench.
Katoa playing 68 min and still being so good on attack and defense is super exciting for us.
Papali was really solid defensively and i think will build back to his 2018 form now he isnt as bulky as last year.
Looking forward to seeing Nate (fingers crossed, injury free) with this new 6 more tackles rule as his pace and fitness will see him thrive imo.
Blair was good too and under the new rules i think his fitness should negate his lack of size

the dragons completed at 82%, but we gave them absolutely nothing, we only conceded 3 penalties all game and were at 100% completions until the 75th minute. That stuff is on us, not the opposition.
I still don’t think it’s given us a proper gauge on our fitness because we made it easier for ourselves with the lack of errors. But geez it looked encouraging.

yeah, that's what I thought during the game, pointed out something similar to Phil in the game thread... totally unexpected turnaround...

While the Dragons completed pretty well, they offered nothing... didn't ask questions of us - there were a couple of breaks (Hunt, Norman) where they strolled through our line...

Certainly we played as well as I could hope...

So I have just discovered I can watch a full replay on NRL TV ... so I wont be spared the disappointment this year, I just have to have a media and friends black out each game day.

I still have Kayo but having low expectations I opted to drink beers in the park yesterday arvo and didn’t watch the game until 5pm, hence why I wasn’t posting in the game thread!

I was drinking beers in the park yesterday afternoon too, first catch up with a group of mates that usually has a potluck once a month. I think there was a lot of drinking in parks going on yesterday, especially with some decent weather.

Can't bring myself to get Kayo just for the Warriors, especially as my hatred for News Limited/Fox grows by the day. :)

Yeah not wrong about the parks yesterday, I was catching up with a mate, her bf and her dog at Sydney Park and half the inner west was there

A buddy of mine just mentioned today that there is some beteasy promotion (presumably signup with no obligation to actually bet) for a 3 month free kayo trial if that would be a goer?

Just googled and came up with this:
"To access the Kayo 3 month free trial, you need to be a BetEasy member that is new to Kayo. You can join BetEasy today and then get the Kayo offer."

We were at Camperdown Oval - it was crazy packed with people. We had balls flying past us, dogs running around, kids climbing all over the cricket screens, there was a huge piss up going on the other side of the changing rooms (birthday I think).

I was in Balmain today and it was easily as busy as the last time I was there late last year.

@jaseg Cheers for that, but I'm anti gambling so wont give a gambling company my details.

You can sign up for watchnrl and then whack a vpn on with Southeast Asia up address. Costs a bit but maybe better than Kayo?

Can’t fault the performance much at all except maybe some uninspiring attack. But how we handle pressure will be the litmus test cause at George didn’t offer much at all. Good signs tho, and that intensity in defense and few errors If continued will win us a fair chunk of games.

One thing i noticed re the Manlys, Rosters, Raiders and Eels was the speed that they all played with throughout and both on attack and on D. This is where the middle of the road teams like us will need to step up to compete. Drags allowed us to play at our speed. When the intensity is full nose and those 4 teams come knocking, if we can’t match it then that’s when any defensive frailties will show up big time.

It's actually not worth me paying and putting in the effort to do that just to watch the Warriors but in a few weeks time I'll likely be using a VPN for the Aotrearoa Super Rugby so I'll be covered anyway.

For now I can find the games online if I really want to ... but the match was up on NRL TV within about 12 hours I think, so I can just wait.

It was a great performance, but I thought we probably should have piled on a few more points. I also wasn't convince that Egan was offering too much out there. It's good to see that the young forwards combined with Tohu (and dare I say it a rejuvenated Blair) might see us have a surprisingly decent pack for the rest of the season.

One thing that stuck out for me in the game was how awful both teams' last tackle options were at times. I'd like to see the stat of how many times both us and the Drags were caught on the last. Early on it seemed like every other set ended in a handover (on the other team's line) and it never really got too much better. Even Blocker 'the Warriors are out on their feet' Roach agreed with me.

I think it’s often a deliberate ploy these days to not give away seven tackle sets. Particularly if you’re already in the opposition red zone, just sending play towards the corner in the hope of getting an outside back over the line on the last is a pretty good option as best case scenario is a try and worst case the opposition has to work play out of the corner from a handover. No seven tackle set, no kick return opportunity for an RTS or Dugan. It’s conservative but not necessarily always a bad option.
