What a finish. Lost my voice. We had a French couple over for dinner and they'd never watched League before. I think they were more entertained by us leaping around like idiots!
My kids think it's hilarious. Then the younger one started yelling like a fool at bed time, I told her to calm down, and she said 'you did it!!'

Fair point.

Stadium pretty empty for Sunday arvo in Newcastle. Must have the gastro bug?
Knights with around 50m in1st set.
DWZ drops it cold 20m out in first set.
Mahjew drops it cold line wide open.
Now a poor kick from Boyd!
Now 6 again for to long in tackle.
Knights knock it on 20m out.
Capewell offload touched for 6 more.
DWZ knocks on bomb, looked tackled in air.
Clearly tackled by Marzhew, no penalty try or professional foul.
6 again, Knights Inside the 10m.
Pompey scores off a Boyd grubber.

0-6 9mins, very interesting first 9mins.

Egan stays down, Crossland fell on his ankle, not hip drop but penalised.
DWZ loses bomb backwards, but called forward by bunker before dropout.
Knights drop ball in tackle. Captains challenge lost.
Capewell tries a grubber at the tryline but no good.
CHT bomb called knock on by Best, Gaigi was escorting DWZ but missed.
6 again, Knights Inside the 10m
Egan sees no markers, back slammed and ball touches tryline, callwd try, Elbow touches ground first, double movement called by bunker and penalised.

Warriors penalised for inside the 10m, 5m out from Knights line.
Knights score off a bomb knocked back, all backwards by Knights hands.

4-6 23mins

Best straight through Capewell with a fend 30m out, passes and Tuaupiki ankle taps man who passes and ball goes to ground.
Halasima stops a 3 on 1! Try denied twice!
Ref call tunnel ball on DWZ! Penalised 10m out!

Marzhew passing ball off ground, no ball on ground but tackle stopped! Gaigi scores off it.
Capewell had done well to cover DWZ jamming in. Bunker ok with it, unlike Egan's.

8-6 28mins

Now Ford loses ball that flys out on 30m, Leo Thompson clear hand on ball stripping out. But no challenge.
Marzhew in the corner as DWZ jams in again, marking no one, leave the centre to Capewell.

12-6 32mins

Now DWZ doesn't jam in and Niukore misses inside man running through, Tuaupiki tackle causes ball to be lost on our 10m.
RTS held down in tackle and earns penalty, starting on their 40m.
Boyd taken out kicking, nothing in that, but penalised.
Knights Inside the 10m.
DWZ scores in corner, but pass from Tuaupiki called forward!
DWZ knocks down pass going to outside man.
TSS with swinging arm to side of head and chest, just penalised.

Halftime, looking messy and clunky, needs lots of improvement!! Lost 4 of 5 when down at halftime.

Now Gagai ball getting stripped by Pompey, but only 1 man in tackle and Warriors penalised!

RTS taken out by Young who changed from challenging to tackling, but let go and 6 more for Knights.

Great pressure by Pompey gets the ball on ground, then held down to long and gets penalty. Starting on their 40m.
Tuipaki off for HIA by independent Dr.
TMM playing fullback now RTS.
Halasima scores off a simple pass from Egan, Knights outside shot out and inside stayed back.

12-12 50mins

Boyd kick goes touch in goal, not sideline. 7 tackle set.
Massive scramble by both sides and end with RTS knocking on their pass, 10m out scrum.
Warriors offside, taking the 2 points.

14-12 57mins

Knights knock it on, Best left it and Marzhew knocked it on on the ground.
Boyd grubber and tackles Gagai to force dropout.
Knights kick it out on the full.
CHT tackled and forced into touch.
Tuaupiki back on.
DWZ knocks on a rushed CHT bomb after Boyd rushes to dump half.
Captains challenge as DWZ gets a throat chop!
Taking the 2.

14-14 69mins

Capewell off, had been struggling in background at different times.
Ref pulls back RTS 40mm after quick play to slow us down.
Boyd bomb taken by Young and taken in goal by RTS to force dropout.
Boyd sprays it right from right in front attempting drop goal! With 8min on clock.

Knights nailed 1 point from 35m out on their left.

15-14 75mins

Boyd kicks it dead from kickoff!!!! FMD
Penalty on halfway!!!
A minute came off the clock there!

Boyd has a shocker of a 2 point attempt!
Challenged by us, Hastings not square at marker putting pressure on kicker!
Penalised!!!
35m out in front taking the 2.
Missed it to left!!!! FMD
Dropping 20m. 45 sec.

WTF!!!!!!

Boyd f**ks the drop goal again changed down.
Halasima scoops it up 44m out, beats a 1000s Knights players to score!!!

15-20 FULLTIME

Ref in our corner first half. Expect a square up later
Felt our main call was Best knock on, when looked back, but they burnt their challenge and a tackle on Boyd after the kick penalised and nothing in it.
We had to go to captain challenges to get any love/correct calls.
Ford loss looked a clear stripping action the way it came out, but we didnt challenge.
Egan try reversal and Marzhew allowed was rediculas.

Leka saves us again. :)

Warriors being a bit dickish at the end though with their shushing and napping signs, I'd prefer they just celebrate the win to themselves than do that crap.
And the screamer on Nine (and to a lesser extent Voss on Fox) were out of control with their commentary. Calm down, be professional.

Jeez Halasima gets going quickly off the mark. Although he did sort of slingshot himself by reaching back a step for the ball.

I’d trade my entire memory bank of Warriors highlights for a premiership but gee whiz moments like that are what keeps a man warm on the long months at sea.

Must be with his defensive reads.
Is there a more impactful ability, or lack thereof, than a winger's in being a poor defensive player? I can't think of a position and a skill that gets more exposed (arguably centre)

Every single team right now - they should have been before - are plotting to expose Dallin. Khan Perera's turn this week.

He doesn't even have much of an up side, apart from semi strong yardage carries. His hands have been absolutely atrocious lately, and he's proving to be completely ineffective in the air

I don't see how it's even an option to not drop him for TT if Charnze is back

I mean, when Best tore down the sideline (when TT and Leka made those try savers) that was interesting. DWZ looks bad because he is there and didn’t jam inside, but it was clearly an issue inside him, right? I’m replaying it in my head but I can’t remember Capewell being there? Had he been injured at that point.

I can't remember that one but i do remember I think the one Marzhew dropped early on that DWZ had no right to come in and take Capewells defender, but he did. You can see he's mentally shot - sometimes he comes in, sometimes he goes halfway house, even the last few times he's come in and got a hand to it, he drops it.

He just burned Capewell on the outside. DWZ obviously can't seem to put a foot right lately but Best had Capewell on toast out there and it surprises me he seems to have avoided criticism. Capewell can be very hit and miss defending at centre, him and Tuaupiki also got absolutely destroyed in the Cowboys game so if Capewell stays at centre and Taine goes to wing I don't have high hopes that our right edge defence will suddenly be ok. I also don't think the outside men have a lot of faith in Boyd there.

So here's another one for the unpopular MV opinions file: I think the Egan and Marzhew decisions were both probably correct?

I think they show how tough it is for referees because they can apply the law to the letter but will still get criticised if it just "looks wrong".

The relevant rule is that you can't promote the ball into the in-goal, or pass the ball, once your ball-carrying arm touches the ground. In Egan's case, while there was plenty of momentum in the tackle, it's also pretty clear that he voluntarily moved his arm after it hit the ground. It's unfortunate, but probably a no try.

With the Marzhew one, he (pretty miraculously) managed to keep the ball carrying arm up. It just looks wrong because he's otherwise pretty much lying prone on the ground when he passes.

Egan had momentum and the ball was up, Marzhew had no momentum and was lying on the ground, so the "vibes" are all wrong - but the reality is Egan's ball-carrying arm hit the ground and Marzhew's didn't.

Capewell didn't have a good game. That side looked much stronger defensively after Pompey moved there once Capewell came off.

Ali had a good game in Cup (playing 5/8, mind you, but got through 80) so maybe he'll come back in on that side this week

Just watched the replay. Very lucky to win that.

Knights bombed 2 tries after they made long breaks on our right edge in the 1st half.

DWZ looked totally confused coming in when we had the numbers. I thought he had a shocker.

We played much better in the 1st 20 minutes of the 2nd half. Played how we have played all season making strong metres through the middle.

Anyway great to get the 2 points and we can hopefully improve from here and lock in a top 4 place.

I think we have only finished top 4, 3 times in our 30 year history
