Jeez Halasima gets going quickly off the mark. Although he did sort of slingshot himself by reaching back a step for the ball.

I’d trade my entire memory bank of Warriors highlights for a premiership but gee whiz moments like that are what keeps a man warm on the long months at sea.
Incredibly lucky for us that the charge down rebounded to Leka. To anyone else we lose.
Super impressive by Leka to "slingshot" as you call it - in the microseconds the ball was coming toward him, behind him, he was already intent on blasting up the middle space and that's how he managed to grab the ball and take off so quickly. Utterly instinctive and amazing to see. Few players have that innate clarity of thought, confidence, and ability combo. So exciting to have some game changing young kiwis in the team, him in particular, but also Vaimangu. And the other two (Stowers-Smith and Laban) also doing great.

yeah, if you look at it, Leka doesn't really beat any defenders until he gets to the fullback. Partly that's just the luck of the bounce with the Knights middle defenders committed to the charge down, but it's also because of Leka's combination of speed and that vision to see the space even as the ball is still bouncing towards him. I mean, he mostly just ran in a straight line, but the ability to see the opportunity and the space so quickly is what's uncanny.

I didn't watch it live but I thought about you guys who did when I watched the highlights last night.

14 seconds left and Boyd is 40 metres out and being rushed for a field-goal. You all must have known - in your heart of hearts - that we'd lose?

Egan had momentum and the ball was up, Marzhew had no momentum and was lying on the ground, so the "vibes" are all wrong - but the reality is Egan's ball-carrying arm hit the ground and Marzhew's didn't.

I think they were 50/50 calls- both of them and the DWZ no try (I thought Taine's pass was fine)

It just seemed to me that the Knights were getting all of the 50-50's

Capewell didn't have a good game. That side looked much stronger defensively after Pompey moved there once Capewell came off.

Ali had a good game in Cup (playing 5/8, mind you, but got through 80) so maybe he'll come back in on that side this week
I thought the same thing. I have been historically a Pompey detractor (along with a few others), but over the last couple of years, those voices have quietened (mine included )and he has developed into a pretty reliable first grade centre. He still has his deficiencies but it's rare that he has a poor game. And... the right side looked more solid when he moved there.

I mean, when Best tore down the sideline (when TT and Leka made those try savers) that was interesting. DWZ looks bad because he is there and didn’t jam inside, but it was clearly an issue inside him, right? I’m replaying it in my head but I can’t remember Capewell being there? Had he been injured at that point.
It's was Niukore on his inside.

I had given up when Boyd kicked the ball dead from the kick off

I thought Leo Thompson was unlucky to lose the challenge on the knockon. I couldnt definitively see from the views we got that he had knocked it on. But others may have a different viewpoint.

I thought we'd lost it earlier than that, I didn't think we had it in the tank at any stage, really in the last 10 minutes. When Boyd missed that sitter field goal with 8 to go, I just presumed it wouldn't be our night, further confirmed when Cogger kicked his. Then I thought we might get lucky with leg contact on Boyd's next one, it turned out to be a marker penalty, then I've locked in a win, Boyd sprays it, I then think we might have enough time for one last crack but the 20m dropout goes well into our territory and bounces for ages, it's charged and I think ah hell we actually are going to lose to the effing Knights with all their cattle out then King Leka steps up.

I literally ran from one end of the house to the other, yelling, jumping, clapping, carrying on like an idiot. I am 41 years old. I live in Melbourne in a townhouse, I can only imagine WTF everyone else around us thought.

It really was a ridiculous roller coaster of emotions. I honestly think it would have ruined my whole week if we hadn't won.

It’s weird, isn’t it? Boyd is generally a really good goal kicker. Watching that last 10 minutes, you’d have to question whether he has the nerve for the big moments

Boyd wasn't discarded from the Titans because he'd been a glorious success in first grade for them.

With that being said, he was certainly clutch when he boshed that golden point field goal over against us in 2022.

Oh no doubt you do. Without pressure he makes that penalty goal 98 times out of 100, probably. And I'm not here to be high and mighty about that, I probably wouldn't even make contact with the ball under that pressure.

No, course he wasn't. But he's a hell of a back-up 7.

It's such a fascinating contrast to Metcalf, who is all clutch but absolutely bludges basic goal kicks.
Metcalf is a fantastic player, but on kicks alone we've got an extra 4-6 point boost.

I'm sure Boyd will bounce back, and he wasn't doing much wrong until that crazy finish.

He bottled that one (well four in 10 mins), but I wouldn't yet raise the question that he doesn't have the nerve for the big moments. No doubt we will find out in the next couple of months. I recall Metcalf wasn't exactly icing big moments either... until he kicked that 50m penalty to win the game.
