Great stuff. Good to see the guys step up into the gaps, and the side still go well again.

PS... But to be honest I got side tracked and missed the game. Chick etc etc.

Any more Rooster injuries ??? Please tell me there was not ??? How did they play overall ??

Ta guys.

Jets played in Auckland today. Cant tell ya how they went other than we got flogged 32-12. apparently. Worrying times in centenary year to an old Jets fan. Anyway. Chin up still. ;-)

Though that's 3 losses in a row for us now. May not make the 4 anymore.

Great the Roosters got up though .;-)

Roosters rein in the Cowboys
Saturday, August 2, 2008

The Sydney Roosters have toppled the North Queensland Cowboys 32-20 on Saturday night in Townsville.

The Roosters overcame a 10 point half time deficit to post 22 points to nothing in the second half, handing the Cowboys their 13th consecutive loss.

The Roosters travelled to the top end looking to stay in touch with the top four whilst the Cowboys were looking to avoid 6 straight losses at home.

The Roosters had the mental edge over their opponents having won 18 of the 21 contests played between the clubs.

Mitchell Pearce’s 8th minute opener gave the Roosters the best possible start in their quest for the two competition points. The young halfback was put in between defenders by Braith Anasta and his right foot step was all that was needed to ignore the attention of swarming defenders. Craig
Fitzgibbon added the extras in his 200th game.

The Cowboys hit back just four minutes later when Dayne Weston strolled through after some skilful lead-up work. Carl Webb popped up a short ball to the second rower who steamed through defenders to cross next to the posts. John Williams converted the try for a 6-all score line.

The Cowboys forwards were having a strong impact up the middle of the ruck. They took advantage of their good field position first through Mark Henry in the 20th minute and again three minutes later through Luke O’Donnell after he touched down on a loose ball after a spilt bomb, with the conversion extending their lead out to 10 points.

The Roosters needed to score next and did when Mitchell Aubusson converted a play started by his brother James. The hooker fired a sweeping pass to Anasta who threw a cut out ball for the centre to cross in the corner.

The home side struck again before the break when Ty Williams somersaulted his way over in the 34th minute. The Cowboys exchanged some quick passes down the Roosters right hand side of defence before the winger acrobatically touched down.

The Roosters first penalty of the night gave them good field position but they could not post any points leaving the home side with a 20-10 advantage going into the sheds.

The Roosters scored first after the interval when Pearce secured his double with a contender for team try of the year. Anasta scrambled into the field of play and Sam Perrett scooted between defenders before support players joined in on the 100 metre effort that went through six pairs of hands. Fitzgibbon added the extras leaving the visitors trailing by four.

Star of the night Pearce was on hand to level the scores with his third try in the 53rd minute. Anasta put p a bomb and the ball rebounded off Fitzgibbons shoulder and the waiting halfback swooped to dive over next to the posts. Fitzgibbon knocked over the two points and the Roosters held a 22-20 lead with 26 minutes to play.

The Cowboys had several opportunities to apply pressure on the visitors but released the valve with simple mistakes.

A Roosters victory was sealed by Willie Mason when he steamrolled two defenders to cross in the 72nd minute. The big second rower burst onto a short ball and bumped off attempted tacklers giving the Roosters a converted try buffer. Amos Roberts stepped up to kick the goal as Fitzgibbon had a spell on the bench.

Roberts motored to a Pearce grubber kick a minute from the end adding further misery to the Cowboys winless streak.

Worrying signs are we are getting beat with the bomb from other teams recently, a team like Melbourne could slaughter us through the air if we don't work on it.

Roberts had another great game, best form since joining us.
Grose is crap.
Perrett played alright, made good metres.
Soliola and Maubs both had good games, strong runs and hard defence.
Anasta and Pearce both had great games, I hope pearce runs it a bit more after seeing his nice step he has.
Brown did basically nothing again apart from defend, but Jaubs had a bloody great game. Made heaps of big tackles and offered creativity around the ruck.
Ogre had a more quiet game by his recent standards.
Pini played really well, his hit ups were absolutely devestating.
Shillo had a decent game, wasn't a stand out but did his job.
Tupou and Cherrington had solid games, made a few hitups and caused trouble for defenders out wide. Noticed a few times they looked to offload but thought better of it, maybe Freddy finally told them only do it if it is going to actually benefit us.
Mason had a good game, scored a try made a few breaks and made some 1v1 try saving tackles.
Mickey Paea didn't get much game time, but in the time he got he tried hard with his hit ups.
Fitzy lead from the front again 101 metres 2 offloads and 42 tackles.

Overall was just an average performance, especially the first half. We shifted the ball a lot more on the 3rd and 4th which is why Soliola made so many metres he had space to break tackles, can't wait for Sa to return he would have had a field day last night. Another positive we didn't rely on the kick as much to score, 4 through the hands 1 bomb and 1 grubber.

it's true we were really shaky under the high ball last night. grose I think may have been paralysed by his super-tight jersey last night which is why he did nothing. that thing was painted on.
