So so unfit. So pathetic around the ruck. Destroyed out of dummy half yet again.

It's all good though. Tohu will fix everything.

The scary thing heading into next season is that Harris and Pulu are all that is coming, salary cap is probably still tight I guess, but when you consider what the other sides down the bottom have done, it's a scary though

Knights - Ponga, Guerra, SKD, Watson and talk of Ese'ese and Moga, definitive improvement on what they have

Tigers - Reynolds, Matulino, Packer, McQueen, Rona etc, might not improve the team much when you consider what's leaving, but Woods and Tedesco haven't done much for them anyway, but what they have purchased you can see Cleary moulding into something competitive

Im more willing to give Jim Doyle time in position than Kearney. For gods sake, Nathan Brown has only won 3 games at the Knights in two seasons, but STILL has a better NRL coaching record overall than Kearney. Hes not bringing anything to the table

But what processes? what have we seen this year that differs from last year? Hes had 19 weeks to get something out of this side and honestly, a lot of their wins have looked flukey. Their defence is still shithouse when it matters, their fitness is suspect, their mental resilience is crap. Hes attracting not a single real powerhouse player for next year while we wave byebye to Manu, Foran, Matulino. We don't have a replacement for Foran (Hingano isn't up to it yet, lets not kid ourselves) and the clock is ticking on players off contract for 2018

Kearney needs to get real at the press conference after this performance, because if he spins the same shit, hes on course for an Eels style repeat.

It's all good and well to say that the processes aren't working, but you know that saying about an old dog and new tricks? Our young dogs are the problem.

Guys like Lisone and Afoa never learnt to defend properly in the under 20's. I'm pretty dubious about whether it's going to happen now. Even Fus with his lack of urgency at times is starting to worry me.

Thompson just isn't a good decision maker in defence. Likewise Kata. Their actual one on one defence is ok at times, but like the guys I just mentioned, they never learnt the 'theory', just the 'smash em' hard' part.

You're right, their mental resilience is crap. Again, find it hard to blame SK though. That's the stuff you learn in the lower grades in the Aus juniors comps. Not in Auckland lower grades where being bigger than the other team will get you over the line.

Absolutely agree that Kearney has gotten a bum hand. But I dont think he has the chops to do anything about it. And his decision making is just weird. Kata was playing poorly before he went on leave, away for two weeks, rushed back into the side.

What I don't get is.... how dumb they are. The Panfers were slowing down the ruck. No penalties. Our blokes were a bunch of rookie gentlemen. Oh, boys, we aren't set, refs are calling for us to roll away but we know they aren't blowing penalties so we will slow down the ruck. Our lads, hey, ref says move cuz, we aren't set, hells bells let's be choirboys and give them a saloon passage straight up the guts.

Man. Frustrating. One Panfer try, Isaac CBF getting back to marker. Another try Isaac comes out of the line and creates an opportunity for Plodsone to be one on one with Ivan Jr. Try time. Cross field chip goes up, Kata doesn't watch the ball and let's them get a clean catch. Try time.

We are dumb. We are unfit. We are a bunch of blokes who probably look great in the gym but have absolutely no footy sense. Horrible joke of a club. And it's only going to get a mile worse next year when 32 blokes leave and only Harris and Pulu come in. Is Tony Iro seriously expecting to receive a monthly pay check??

Mannering, whilst did play under 20s didn't come up via Aussie system and is up there with the best defensively.
How do we replicate that???

Cleary is seriously good. I would swap SJ and Foran for him and throw in Kata for free.

Just saw some of the aftermatch, and it is something that has irked me a lot of times over the years with NZ sport, when I see teams/players put more effort into a bloody haka than performance during the game

Always find a bit of comedy in the post match as well, and the best this time being Barnett "warriors need 5/7, if any team can do it, it's the warriors"

U mad bro?

Kata was one of the best players on the park, selfless and committed, rewarded with two tries.
Automatic selection.

What a frustrating game.

Terribly officiated- the ruck was the wild west.

The Panthers linespeed was superhuman- which is a nice way to say that they were inside the 10 all night.

The Panthers were slowing down the ruck something chronic.

Some of the most terrible attempts at playing the ball, from both sides, just get waved through.

I'm not blaming the loss on the officiating- the Panthers were smart enough to take advantage of the kind of game that it was and we weren't. And a pretty courageous effort from them to overcome the binning, and the loss of Merrin and Moylan.

Both your posts above Meth sum up exactly what I thought of the match. That with several soft tries we let in + the Panthers being more physical (except Gavet). Couldn't help but look at Lillyman and think how the f*ck is this guy a automatic starting prop from us. He looked like a boy amongst men last night, Matulino couldn't really be stuffed like usual.

Also Afoa had been a prop his entire junior career, of course he's screwing up in defence in the second row. Poor planning from the Warriors there, he was always going to be too small for a NRL prop, but played 3 seasons of NYC there, and when he's "NRL Ready" he's put in an un familiar position?

See you next year guys, I'm about done. I'd like to say it's been fun, but this season really hasn't.

I've signed up to Rd 26. In the past few seasons that involves sitting at home with a bottle of red wine, which I don't usually drink.

I have a ball, actually. I hope it's a Sunday afternoon. I've had two bottles sitting there, ominously, all season, a bit taunting, a bit melancholy, a bit humorous, over in a dark, forgotten corner of the loungeroom. I even got myself a cute, rustic little wine rack from Vinnies.

Bring it on.
