All Focus on Panthers – Tyrrell

While Rabbitohs prop-forward Dave Tyrrell was pleased with last Saturday’s win over the Newcastle Knights, all focus has shifted to this Sunday’s match against the Penrith Panthers and the need to improve further at ANZ Stadium in Round 21.
The Rabbitohs took down the Knights by 52-6 in what was a solid outing by the men in red and green, but it was by no means a perfect performance as Tyrrell explained to the Rugby League media.
“It’s good to get some points on the board, but we’re completely focussed about next week,” said Tyrrell.
“It wasn’t perfect – there was a few balls that went to ground, a couple of things we can always improve on, so we’re really looking to push forward and keep improving.
“We take nothing for granted and we have to work hard every week. Nothing comes easy in the NRL, so despite the belief (we in ourselves) we know we have to work hard. Nothing else matters until next week, so that’s all we’re focussed on.”
Tyrrell – who has played all 18 games in the Rabbitohs season – played a big role for Souths against the Knights last week in terms of go-forward, with the prop making 105 metres with the ball in hand in just 27 minutes on the field.

Hopefully we can get a 20+ win this week.

Gotta take advantage of Penrith's injury toll.

And get revenge for last time.

Yep it's important we win well for our for and against differential.

Penrith got 2 more big blows yesterday with no Wallace for rest of year and Whare out for 1 month.

But they most likely get Mansour, Zelezniak and Simmons back.

Souths can't underestimate Penrith otherwise we will be in trouble.

A win will keep us in 4th.

Yep alien we must win.

BUT, one of the refs is that bloody idiot Matt Cecchin and he hates us and is so bias against us. We get killed in the penalties and killed in 50/50 calls with him.

The other ref is Jared Maxwell.

I'm getting fired up already for Cecchin as he will do his absolute best to try and sabotage us.

Last time he referred one of our games my face went beetroot red with anger!!!! I'd just never seen such one sided disgusting refing than that.

Inglis to Become Rabbitohs Centurion

Rabbitohs skipper, Greg Inglis, will become just the 19th player in history to play 100 games for two Clubs this Sunday afternoon when he and his men take on the Penrith Panthers at ANZ Stadium in Round 21 of the NRL Premiership.
The Rabbitohs, Australian and Queensland fullback, played 117 matches for the Melbourne Storm between 2005 and 2010, beginning his career as a tall and wiry outside back with a lethal turn of pace. He would go on to win a Clive Churchill Medal for the Storm in 2007 playing five-eighth while also becoming a mainstay in representative outfits at all levels of the game.
Inglis played his first game for the Rabbitohs in 2011 in Round 1 of that season against the Sydney Roosters at the Sydney Football Stadium. He has since gone on to win a Premiership with the Club in 2014 among a host of other individual accolades.
Rabbitohs Head Coach, Michael Maguire, has known Inglus since his days at the Melbourne Storm, and the mentor is proud that his player will be notching up the unique milestone this Sunday.
“It’s a big milestone for anyone – playing 100 games for a club,” said Maguire.
“GI’s been able to achieve that at two Clubs now, and for Souths it’s obviously very special with him being Captain.”
But rather than focusing on the individual milestone, Maguire is prouder still of Inglis’ growth as a leader since taking on the role of Captain beginning in 2015. Inglis in fact skippered the side to World Club Challenge victory over St Helens in his first outing with the ‘c’ next to his name full-time.

“He’s really taken control of the leadership in the organisation,” said Maguire.
“I’ve been fortunate in that I’ve known Greg for a long time and I’ve been able to see him develop right throughout his career at two clubs.
“He’s really taken on board his position in this Club – he’s developed into not only a very good fullback, but a leader of his team and his community through all his hard work.
“He’s been able to show in recent times that he’s up there with some of the best in that position. But it’s not just that – it’s the way he applies himself to other things, whether it’s training or developing our younger men, or work with Souths Cares. They’re the little things that make Greggy a leader.”
Those leadership qualities are a blessing for the young brigade at the Club according to Maguire, with a talented contingent of players such as Alex Johnston and Aaron Gtay seeking to learn from the veteran of 34 Tests and 27 Origin games.
“It’s his presence in terms of what he does daily,” said Maguire.
“He’s passionate about the things he does and he invests himself into it like a true professional. He takes it upon himself to mentor those young boys and providing support when and where it’s needed.
“He’s a senior member of the team and the younger players tend to learn a lot from him – he’s a great mentor for our young boys to look to as they look to forge a career in Rugby League.
“There’s a lot of lessons that the boys are learning off Greg all the time and that reflects the enjoyment he gets out of playing Rugby League.”
The South Sydney Rabbitohs will take on the Penrith Panthers this Sunday afternoon at ANZ Stadium, with kick-off slated for 4pm. Click here to purchase your tickets now!

Having recovered from a career-threatening neck injury, South Sydney back-rower Kyle Turner will make his NRL return this weekend.
Turner's rugby league future was at a crossroads in February after he was hospitalised after suffering a worrying spinal injury in a Paul Gallen tackle in the NRL All Stars game.
The premiership-winning forward made his comeback for the Rabbitohs' reserve grade side North Sydney two weeks ago and will make his return to the NRL off the bench against Penrith at ANZ Stadium.
Following his injury, his family expressed fears he would not play again and he underwent revolutionary surgery, which involved the removal of a bulging disc through the front of his throat that was replaced with an artificial one.
His Rabbitohs clubmates have hailed him as an inspiration after displaying perseverance in his recovery while coach Michael Maguire said it was a special moment watching him return to the field a fortnight ago in the NSW Cup.
"He's done a lot of work in the background and to see him running around ... I think all his teammates and the staff are really pleased with how he's gone and he's going to be a great addition to us," Maguire said of Turner last week.
Turner played most of last season starting in the back-row on the Rabbitohs' march to the premiership.
He faces a battle to force his way into the 13 this season with Glenn Stewart, John Sutton and Chris McQueen ahead of him in the pecking order and the Rabbitohs firing in fourth spot.

Rabbitohs Forward, Chris Grevsmuhl, says that despite last week’s 52-6 win against the Newcastle Knights, the team is focusing on each game as it comes, starting with this Sunday’s Round 21 clash against the Penrith Panthers.
The Rabbitohs have achieved wins in their past two outings, defeating both the Newcastle Knights and St George Illawarra Dragons.
But Grevsmuhl emphasised to Rabbitohs.com.au that the team is continually seeking to improve upon their past performances and not focus on prior results as the business end of the season looms.
“We’re working week to week on trying to better ourselves as a team,” Grevsmuhl said.
“We’re out there to improve upon our processes and play to the best of our abilities each week. We’ve been getting closer to where we want to be in the last few weeks, but there’s still areas we need to work on.
“We’re looking forward to building on that this weekend against the Panthers.”

Grevsmuhl believes that he and his team is starting to gel together, with all players performing their roles well and working together, allowing the team to string together some solid performances.
“All the boys have been playing really well.” Grevsmuhl said.
“The forwards have been working very well together and ‘Reyno’ (Adam Reynolds), ‘Kink’ (Luke Keary) and ‘Greggy’ (Greg Inglis) have been leading from the front as well, steering the team around,”
“It’s a good environment to be around at the moment- we’re very excited for each week.
Grevsmuhl –who has primarily been used as an impact player off the bench this season – featured once again for the Rabbitohs in Round 20 against the Knights, running for 86 metres with the ball in hand and completing 14 tackles in just 29 minute on the field.
The South Sydney Rabbitohs will take on the Penrith Panthers this Sunday afternoon at ANZ Stadium, with kick-off slated for 4pm. Click here to purchase your tickets now!
