God that was the worst win I've seen the Warriors sneak away with for a good while. We normally just miss the finals on the back of losing games like this, so it was an important win in the end.

That performance would only beat a handful of bottom rung teams in the comp

Barnett ringing the praises of Maumalo again. I mean sure he made metres but he is a shockingly bad winger.

Maumalo was pretty good today but that was mainly because he came on looking for big runs up the middle. He was crap at actual wing stuff.

Overall though good to win ugly, we need to win those ones too, not just run over under strength sides.

Yeah, he's a bloody good ball carrier. But is shocking in the air and has poor hands. And whist it wasn't shown tonight, is also an abysmal technical defender. So basically, he's a second rower.

Anyhow, we won. No more gimmes for a long time, however - every win from hereon in will have to be earned.

We just beat the competition's spuds, who lost to Melbourne 46-0, at home, by 2 points. And scored one try.

So yeah, let's all have bro shakes, fist pumps and kid ourselves for another week.

I don't think it's fair to minimise their feelings of joy. They were in an arm wrestle, it was a tough scrappy game, both teams missing key personnel, injured troops, etc. they didn't shit the bed and let in 50. They hung in till the end and did not give up. I Hear what you're saying don't get me wrong but they just won a scrappy game, I reckon they are entitled to celebrate it, key is to not get too carried away

Vete's work with ball in hand is impressive, runs hard and looks for the offload.

Losing Leuluai early and Johnson on one leg probably had a bit to do with the disjointed looking attack.

Luke was really good from about minute 20-70 and bloody terrible either side of that.

Just a weird game all round

pretty vital win as it maintains momentum.

not pretty but it was a potential banana skin with a team that got beaten 46-0 the previous week. I seem to recall us being whomped 42-0 by the same team so we shouldnt be writing the Roosters off as easybeats. And like us, they aimed up the following week eg us v St George (after Storm) and Brisbane (after the Raiders humiliation).

no razzle dazzle but its 2 well earned points. And also broke a record of being 0-12 when behind at half time. The other pleasing thing was no points scored against us in the last 10mins before halftime.
Maxwell was weak and should have sinbinned a Roosters player for continually being offside which made it harder for us to get momentum due to all the stoppages.

NRL Stats show some pretty good meters. 9 players cracked 100 with one player Kata on 97. 3 of the 9 were over 150. Agree that Maumolo does half of Vatuveis job but he did take one high ball which in the past you would be betting against him doing.

toughest game/win of the season for me.. Showed the mental toughness we've been looking for.

Really happy to get the win in the end....as a few have said, the kind of game we usually lose so it was good to see some commitment.

I thought it was crazy the whole back line shuffle we did....we lose one player and ended up changing the
WHOLE back line. Fusitua would have almost certainly scored that try Roach bombed on the wing, and having Lolohea at 6 really weakened our attack...really not convinced hes a 6. IMO we would have
Been better having either Roach or Luke play 6 and keep everything else as is....

Maumalo...very average. I really hope he doesn't play for us again this year.
Sibley. ...absolute beast. Is gunna be great in a few years, absolute star in the making. Shouldn't play more than 25 minutes at the moment, looked to fatigue very quick.
SJ on one leg was interesting, still better than anything else we have but it was apparent he shouldn't have been out there.
all in all, very happy with 2 points. Well be better for that game I think

I agree, and there were a few wins like this in each successful season under Cleary.

A cynic (or realist) would still say, apart from two second halves against the Knights, there's not much between us and the two cellar-dwellers this season.

When we roll forward we win games. With guys like Luke, Johnson, Lolohea (and RTS when he was here) that's what we need - to get rolling up the park.. the rest will take care of itself.

As for this game; we were rubbish, refs were just as bad, Roosters even worse than that. Scraped a win so at least there's 2 competition points in the bank.

All of our middles (except Vete and his lazy defending) played well, that essentially was what won us the game - the fact that we played it (mostly) well away from our own tryline.

edit; ugh, forgot the point of that... so yeah, JWH would've been amazing.

He almost set up a try for Kata.

The Bulldogs game in Wellington where he was 6, he had a blinder for the short stint he had at 6.

Like Billy Slater and Andrew Johns, I too would like to see him at 6.

He had a mixed game but more bad then good. Early in the game where he was at fullback, he shuffled a ball onto Ayshford that he shouldn't have. He's still a work in progress at fullback but he's doing well at the back today he had to switch which mightve caught him off guard.

Can't agree there, it was more of a "not losing" contest.

Two awful teams playing an awful game of footy, didn't see a lot of mental toughness just saw lots of attacking ineptitude both ways.

Glad we got the win but (Knights aside) that's about as bad as an opponent we will get.
