There was a time where I thought Hurrell was going to be our major star but the more I see Kata play the more I realize he is the guy that is truly going places star tag or not.

I asked Manu who was the strongest player at the warriors. He told me Lillyman in the gym but Kata on the field. Said he was hard as.

I think time will prove you wrong. Kata is noticeably more confident and has been making better decisions in the games I have seen this year. He just needed a bit of time and coaching which he seems to have gotten. He doesnt seem to have much of a passing game though...but maybe he will learn that as well. I can see now why cappy persevered with him. He is probably a very coachable player that will keep getting mentally better the longer he is a first grader, which will allow more of his natural talent and abilities to shine fourth.
I hope so, but nothing in these two performances suggest to me his passing game is going to improve or his defence pattern is tightening.

I don't know why he's not used on the wing at this stage of his career so he can do what he does best, tuck the ball under his arm and run. Instead we waste Tui out there.

He may have had two good performances, but I'll wait to see if they carry on against the better teams before I'll be convinced.

Yep, really enjoy seeing a player address his weaknesses successfully. Like Johnson has with his defence too - he was physical on d today was Shaun. If only Robson could find some wheels :roll:

You cant coach speed unfortunately :/

Professional foul!
10 in bin ref!...

I was just metres away from that incident, Phil. It's amazing how in real time it's obviously a foul, even a penalty try, but when the Bunker gets involved it becomes a tap restart from the twenty.

A sad indictment on modern technology.

...Kata greedy but gets over...

Yes, totally. I was metres away from that try too, having switched ends at half-time. I thought he was going to pass to Manu for an easy try but Kata went a slightly more risky route.

Manu's body language was pretty pissed off. He's not the type of oke to go waving his arms around or anything but he wasn't impressed.

went to the game, great game with a great finish.
havent seen the replay yet but was katas tackle on fergerson something to worry about. im sure he has carry over points.

few things i noticed

- im sure i read it from someone here when the warriors were playing the storm but their warm up was very very soft in my opinion. no real contact just a couple of drills. they had some time to spear so hoffman, mannering, johnson, robson and rts were doing extras. the rest nothing???

- i still dont believe cappy has the interchange right. carring a hooker and centre on the bench doesnt workout well. wken konnie comes on he just tries to hard. at one stage there our forward pack was
luke
hurrell
tavenga
mannering
hoffman
Lisone
and what do u know thats when the roosters were making heaps of metres. anyways that was a good momentum game, pretty sure we can beat manly this week heading into a few games in NZ

Highlight for me..

You see these two centres, Kata and Ferguson, in the flesh and the size difference is enormous. I was quite shocked today, Kata's almost dummy-half size, Ferguson, height-wise, could be a backrower.

But I tell you what, our kid's come good. From what I saw at the game he got the better overall of Ferguson, by playing low and hard, burrowing and pile-driving like a man possessed. Who would've thought that last year? Our coaching, or at least the coaching of Kata, can't be as bad as we think it is.

Lillyman and Matulino rocked the Roosters in the first half. Long time since Warriors dominated a Roosters forward pack like that. Made Napa and Evans look poor by usual standards. And Gubb..? Keep going mate!! Tui (A) and Kata (D) were awesome. Blake kept quiet all day by Kata. Well done.

What happened during the break though?

Came out and suddenly it was all over the place. Just throwing the ball round with no respect for the opposition. What worked in the first half went out the window. Thought they would have carried on with a solid start up the middle but too much sideways football. Back to the old habits I guess.

Thought they should have gone on with the job and not let the Roosters back in. We let them in more than they deserved today.

Anyway, good to get the win and glad Tui was killing it!!!

Anyone else notice that everytime Vatuvei does rush defence to shut down a threatening play near his try line, he smashes into the ball receiver, big impact, both bounce off, and the dude with ball restarts running to score or nearly score. Happened today and I swear I've seen it half a dozen times recently. I cannot recall him actually completing one of those tackles. He can't stick on to them. It has cost us points before and nearly did today. Love the manu but manu has some muppetry.

I missed all but golden point of the game, how was Kata against Ferguson? I remember Ferguson owning him last year... It seems some good feedback in Kata this game which would make two good games in a row. I was always a critic but I was so impressed last week.

Hurrell has a hard job now, he's no good in the forwards but ayshford and Kata are good at the moment.

What about the potential penalty try? Gueria already had his right hand and Hoffmans collar and then pulled him away from the ball as he reached out to ground it. What makes a penalty try?? Even 10 in the bin for professional foul?

To answer your question, that was normally a penalty try 10 times out of 10. If it was Billy Slater being held back by say Shaun Johnson then it would have been a penalty try to the Storm. What Im tryin to say is, its because it happened to the Warrior. If it was any other team they would have got the usual penalty try or sin bin.

Guerra cheated on the field and then the officials cheated the Warrior of League justice. The very sad thing about all this cheating is its probably going to get swept under the rug despite its significance as the Warrior almost lost.

A lot of players would have done the same as Guerra and it's a forgivable play in the circumstances. BUT it's also a high stakes play and there is a debt that needs to be paid. I can handle no penalty try (sort of) but it HAS to be a sin bin imo. Do they ever do both?

That was such a bullshit decision - when even the Oz studio guys are commenting on it at half time you know it is shit.

How can anyone involved in that decision making process feel they did the right thing?

I strongly believe that if league brings in soccer's (and now rugby's) red and yellow card system then it will solve a lot of these problems.

The cards are in the refs pockets, they're an official mechanism to counter on-field foul play, the refs feel like they should be used in situations such as these, when the ref blows the whistle and reaches for his pocket the player knows he's in trouble.

A yellow card, ten in the bin, and the player aware that another cynical tug on an attacking players shirt and he's got a red.

They very rarely do either so you can forget about both!

For penalty try they spout on about it has to be basically 100% certain a try would have been scored which is utter rubbish because it is impossible to have that level of certainty. An achilles might snap at the crucial moment (like mine last week :( ) or he drops the ball.

League rulings are so often dumb - that had to be a penalty try - he had a more than 50% chance of scoring. Blatant professional foul in score trying position. Sin bin at minimum. In Union, which tends to have that shit sorted so much better, that's a penalty try/sin bin 100% of the time, no questions asked and noone would ever complain (cept Cameron Smith, somehow, somewhere).

League is usually the leader with this type of stuff but they're falling far behind rugby at the moment.

Why do away with the sin bin? And, if you do away with the sin bin make sure there are other measures in place.

This is stupid, they've made themselves look like a bunch of crooks, but likely because it happened to the Warriors it wont even make a ripple in the media.

It's like the TMO early days all over again. It's frustrating enough being a Warriors fan without this sort of garbage.

100% agree. Had to be a sin bin at the very least. Can live with the penalty try no decision.
