Inglis Raring for Local Derby

Rabbitohs skipper and fullback, Greg Inglis, says his side will need to build upon their showing in the latter stages of their round 25 clash with the Bulldogs last week, to beat defending-Premiers the Roosters.
The Rabbitohs will meet the Roosters in their final regular season game at Allianz Stadium this Thursday after a late surge against the Bulldogs saw the side take the two points last Thursday night.
“We’ve just got to build on how well we played in the last 20 minutes of last week’s game – we’ve got to perform really well,” said Inglis
“Obviously they’re a high quality side and they proved that last week against the Storm.”
The Roosters have won their last five consecutive games and currently sit on equal 34 competition points in third position, just behind the Rabbitohs on for and against by two points.
While the Roosters will be without the services of hooker Jake Friend owing to injury, the Rabbitohs will also be without halfback Adam Reynolds, after the play-maker took an early guilty plea today (Monday) for a dangerous throw.
For Inglis, while the loss of Reynolds will force a re-shuffle in the Rabbitohs back-line, with John Sutton looming closer to a return, Inglis is confident that all positions will be covered come kick-off.
“It does put a little spanner in the wood-works,” admitted Inglis.
“Sutto’s fighting to come back – we can play around with some other little key positions there, but like you said, it’s going to be one of the main positions we’ll have to fill if he does take that week.
“He (Sutton) has got to tick all the right boxes to get through, and getting through training is his main priority.
“The medical staff is doing everything they can to make sure he’s right to play.”

Burgess keeping a lid on his frustrations

National Sport Breaking News Sport League News
Date September 1, 2014 - 7:03PM Sam Burgess has put his sensational form for South Sydney this year down to not getting involved in personal battles with rival players.
The Rabbitohs' superstar is in the running to become the first forward to win the Dally M Medal since Cronulla's Gavin Miller 1989, and credits this to keeping a lid on his frustrations.
The Englishman, who will return home to play rugby at the end of this season following a hugely successful four-year stint in the NRL, had earned a reputation of the wrong sort following some incidents in 2013.
His infamous 'squirrel grip' on Melbourne's Will Chambers earned him a two-match ban and widespread condemnation.
He was also involved in a running battle with Sydney Roosters five-eighth James Maloney last year where he appeared to deliberately poke his finger in the playmaker's eye.
There were also signs of his temper boiling over earlier this year when Burgess and his brother George became embroiled in a running battle with Wests Tigers forward Aaron Woods in a round three defeat.
Woods claimed after the game that Souths could be beaten if the Yorkshire siblings were provoked.
Burgess revealed that a heart-to-heart with coach Michael Maguire got him back on track.
"We talked through a few things that make me do some silly things on the field and why some battles might have got the better of me," Burgess said.
"I've just relaxed and just tried to work hard for my teammates."
Burgess dismissed the perception put forward by NSW prop Woods and said players at every club stand up for their teammates.
"This year I have taken personal battles out of my game and it's worked for me," he said.
"I had to be careful this year as my record has a few loading points on there.
"There are perceptions of everything - I never really bought into it. Everybody likes to say it's about the Burgess boys.
"But it's about the team really, we're a tight-knit group and look out for each other.
"I think there was only one occasion where me and George have got involved."
Teammate Greg Inglis was mildly critical of Burgess last season and the Queensland and Test star said he has noticed a rise in his performances as a result of his keeping his cool.
"You can see that Sam is enjoying his footy," Inglis said.
"He's not going into games thinking about personal battles. It's unfortunate it took him probably after pre-season to notice that.
"Sammy is one of those players who loves those battles, but you can see now that he is really enjoying what he is doing and it's out of his game now.
"He's always been a great player but to take it to the next level you have to put all that stuff aside and the last month or so he has really come into his own."

I think Sutto, GI, Sam and McQueen will all play. I just have a feeling. Dont think I think its a good idea though it's a bit risky.

Also Koroisau was training today so he may be ok if we get a bad result at the judiciary tomorrow.

Building Pressure is Key - Maguire

Words: Tom Skolarikis I Video: Chris Beavon
Tue 2nd September, 12:20PM A A

Rabbitohs Head Coach, Michael Maguire, puts it all down to building pressure ahead of this week’s round 26 clash with defending-Premiersthe Sydney Roosters at Allianz Stadium in the second leg of the Ron Coote Cup.
The Roosters come into Thursday night’s match having trumped the Melbourne Storm in round 25 by 24-12 – a victory Maguire says was built on the pressure applied by the defending-Premiers.
“They’re building pressure,” said Maguire.
“That’s the key to the game against the Storm – they were able to apply a lot of pressure right throughout that game.
“Those sorts of things are probably the things that every team are building on, so we need to be strong in that area.”
The Rabbitohs will be looking to build on their round 25 performance against the Bulldogs after coming away with a late 21-14 win on the back of a 20 minute surge in the latter stages of the game.
For the Rabbitohs mentor, there is plenty to improve on.
“We performed well with 20 minutes to go there at the back end of the game – we were able to pull ourselves back into the game,” said Maguire.
“There’s plenty of improvement in us and we’re aware that we’re coming up against a side that’s pretty well in hot form.”

Issac Luke feared he may have suffered neck injury in Michael Ennis tackle

League News South Sydney Rabbitohs
Date September 1, 2014 - 10:00PM
Michael Chammas

Rugby league reporter

South Sydney will argue that Issac Luke feared he could have suffered a serious neck injury when he lashed out at Michael Ennis last Thursday night.
Luke will front the NRL judiciary on Tuesday night, a day earlier than the scheduled meeting because of the short turnaround to Thursday night's clash with the Roosters, in a bid to escape suspension for dangerous contact on the Bulldogs skipper.
However, Souths also risk losing Luke for the first week of the finals if they fail to convince the judiciary of his innocence.
Fairfax Media understands Luke feared for his safety after he was placed into an awkward position by Ennis, causng him to try to kick out of the tackle.
Ennis managed to hold Luke for an extended period with his neck bent into the ground and his legs in the air, placing extra pressure on Luke's neck by pushing down on his legs for up to four seconds before the South Sydney hooker tried to break out of Ennis' hold.
The Rabbitohs are also expected to contest whether there was minimal, if any, contact made with Ennis' face, which the former Blues hooker agreed with.
"At the time it was a reaction thing," Ennis said on Sky Sports Radio.
"I felt his boot just clip me. I don't remember where. It was more of a reaction. His legs were in a funny position. It's just that movement where you go to move out the way and he just sort of got me. Nothing in it. I get along with Issac very, very well. He's a good fella and a terrific player, too."
It comes just three weeks after Canterbury's Josh Reynolds was hit with a grade-one dangerous-contact charge for kicking Broncos forward Sam Thaiday during the Bulldogs' 41-10 loss to Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium in round 22.
That charge made up one week of a three-week suspension, which also included two weeks for tripping former teammate Ben Barba.
Rabbitohs halfback Adam Reynolds has taken the early guilty plea for his grade-one dangerous-throw charge and will miss Thursday's potential minor premiership showdown with the Roosters.
Thaiday could miss Friday's crucial clash against Melbourne after he was charged with a grade-one dangerous-contact charge on St George Illawarra's Will Matthews.
It is likely the Broncos will fight the charge for the crusher tackle last Friday night, given Thaiday will still face one week off if he is unsuccessful in his bid to get off the charge.
Eels forward Ben Smith might have played his last game in the NRL after he was charged with a grade-three dangerous-contact charge for a crusher tackle on Newcastle's Chanel Mata'utia.
Smith will miss three games with an early plea and four games if he fights and loses.
Roosters centre Michael Jennings was hit with a grade-one careless high tackle but will escape suspension.
Bulldogs forward Dale Finucane will miss his side's final-round clash against the Titans on the Gold Coast on Sunday afternoon. Finucane took the early guilty plea for his grade-one dangerous-throw charge on Rabbitohs forward Jason Clark last Thursday night, but will be available if Canterbury qualify for the finals.
Penrith's Adam Docker was hit with a grade-one dangerous throw and will miss a minimum of two weeks after an early plea.
Titans lock Greg Bird will miss one game with an early plea for a dangerous throw on Sione Lousi, or risk missing the opening game of the Four Nations if he fights and loses.
Dragons hooker Mitch Rein faces a week for a dangerous-contact charge on Ben Hunt, while Sam Rapira can escape suspension with an early plea for his dangerous-contact charge.

It’ll be match-ups galore when the Rabbitohs face arch-rivals the Roosters this Thursday night in the second leg of the Ron Coote Cup – the last round of the regular season.
Among the plethora of matchups, Rabbitohs lock-forwars Sam Burgess will face off with Sonny Bill Williams, in what the Englishman describes as just one of many
“There’s our front rowers and their front-rowers,” said Burgess, referring to brothers George and Thomas, as well as Dave Tyrrell, who will come up against the likes of Jarred Waerea-Hargreaves.
“I think there’s a good match in the halves – young (Luke) Keary coming up against them (James Maloney and Mitchell Pearce) and Greggy (Greg Inglis and (Anthony) Minichiello.
“There are good matches all over the field – but we’ll just solely be focusing on our team performance. It’s going to be another big game.”
With regular halfback Adam Reynolds accepting a one-match suspension for a dangerous throw, Luke Keary will don the number seven jersey after excelling at five-eighth in recent weeks. Burgess has full confidence in Keary’s ability to steer the side around the park.
“I think he’s been special since he came in,” said Burgess of Keary.
“I won’t expect anything more, or anything less than what he’s given already. There’s no pressure on him really from me or the team. He’ll just go out there and be himself.
“I’m fully confident that he’ll do a good job for us and I’m looking forward to seeing him go.”

It will be really interesting to see how Keary goes at half back. Keary is so much speedier of the mark when compared to A Reynolds.
Not sure yet if Sutton will be cleared to play and if he does play the question is how much will he slow Keary down. Will Sutton at 5/8 bring a more solid foundation to one of the faster backlines in NRL.

This game could answer a few questions in the short term re Sutton v Keary and Keary v Reynolds.

Boy oh boy oh boy.

There is one bloke on the net that is adamant that Sutto won't play. He says it will be Api at half and Keary at 5/8.........wait and see.

Good to see ENNIS showing support for Issac in the media.
He said that he was only caught a glancing blow which took him by surprise & stunned him briefly.
He said that he & Issac were pretty good mates off the field.

As well as good luck with Issac it looks like the "Injury Gods" are on our side with FRIEND & BALIN both likely to be out for the season.
A typical Haemothorax injury[Friend] takes 6 wks of physical therapy ie. 2 to 3 times of treatment per week for 6 wks.He should NOT be allowed to play.
Balin has a broken fibula so the chances of him returning are very minimal.

Madge said Dylan will go 6 if Sutto is out. In my opinion no way Api will play in the halves.

Well done Issac great news! He did nothing wrong can't believe the refs were watching closely and couldn't see what bloody Ennis was doing.

Yet apparently it was more obvious that Sam twisted Tony Williams leg or something and went close to being put on report and a suspension.

If a Souths player did what Ennis did they would get a grade 2 charge and miss 2-3wks. No consistency whatsoever.

Apparently the Roosters think he will come back towards the end of finals. But it will depend on the doctors but Friend's surgery went very well I heard.

Where did you hear about Ballin from? I thought Toovey said he would only miss a week and it was nothing serious.

I think Ennis should have missed this week for what he did.
