Yes , as ridiculous as

If the ball does not bounce off the post into path of Rooster , Souths would have won
or

If the referee would have called a knock on on Pearce , Souths would have won

or
If the referee would have been consistent and NOT sinbinned Auva , we would have won.
Pearce dropped the ball COLD . The Roosters , also were penalised near the line for trying to slow down the play the ball . Consistency would have had a Rooster player sinbinned as well.

Anyway , Roosters got all the rub of the green and just held off Souths at the end. I like the way some Roosters fan dismiss the last 15 minutes as Roosters easing off and conveniently ignore the huge advantage from the sin bin.

Souths lost , however at the end , it was a SWEET loss with plenty of promise for the next game.Bring it on , hope it is next week.

The Roosters have a few more gears in them than the Rabbits

I've got mixed feelings on the game. Although we were 22-2 down I don't think we were horrendously bad! We didn't play well but by no means was it an ordinary performance. I recall Gus saying that we were horrendous in the first 60 minutes. I think Gus Gould always tends to blow things out of proportion when he commentates. For instance, during our win against Manly at the SCG he was raving on about how we're favorites and that all fans should be getting very very excited because we'll probably be in the Grand Final, and that we look unstoppable etc. What I found to be our downfall was our last tackle options. Sutton's kicking game and overall performance last night was indicative of a player returning from injury. I would bet anything on the fact that if Adam Reynolds hadn't been suspended then Sutton would have started from the bench. The last 15 minutes from Souths was as good as I've seen this Souths team play. What I can't understand was why we waited until the 65th minute when we were 22-2 behind to start getting our outside backs more involved in the game? I put this down to a fear of making handling errors due to the wet and greasy conditions. Yes it was wet, but the playing surface held up well and the conditions for handling weren't that bad. We also bombed a couple of tries. On one occasion Inglis threw a poor ball that went into touch when the line was wide open for his first man. Also when Mitchell Pearce, ran Inglis down I felt that Inglis should have put his head down and gone straight for the line. If you watch the replay, you can see that Greg Inglis sort of stopped and tried to step inside Pearce.

Full credit must got the Roosters. Their line speed and the way they scrambled in defence was admirable. I also thought they made a point of order to really get up in the face of Sam Burgess and shut him down. However, when I watch the Roosters. I don't feel that they are invincible. I've always felt that this Rooster team no matter how well they play will always give you chances due to their ill-discipline and the errors they make; I'm not so sure the likes of Melbourne and Manly would afford teams the same opportunities.

I disagree with that. I think when this South Sydney teams gets a good head of steam up and our forwards rumble forward then we can handle the Roosters. What the Roosters do have is a superbly talented team one through to seventeen who can score points from anywhere on the field. They have an aggressive forward pack, the most improved hooker in the competition, very good halves and outside backs who are especially good in the air! I also feel that their 'squad players' are among the best quality in the competition. However, for all the talent they possess the Roosters will always give you a chance(s) to beat them because they are so ill-disciplined in terms of the penalties they give away and their handling.

When we play Roosters again in the finals when we get our chances I'm confident Adam can get us repeat sets and better field position than last night. Reynolds can match Pearce.

Sam and GI you could tell weren't 100 percent. A longer turn around will do them good.

I thought the Roosters forwards had more energy than us and they won the wrestle. In the finals it's obvious that winning the wrestle is important and can have a big bearing on who wins.

I'm sick of people saying Souths wrestle the most. Seriously all the teams up the top of the ladder do it. It's a part of the game now.

The Roosters were better last night but not by too much. They deserved their win. Their defense was very strong. Will be an absolute cracker when we meet again and I look forward to it.

Sutto was on one leg too.

Your mob are the biggest offenders int he comp when it comes to wrestling followed by the bulldogs. For once it doesn't work and you cry over it.

I'm actually not disappointed with Souths effort. You guys were too good last night and you had some luck on your side. But next time could be different.

Pearce was very good but remember Souths were missing Adam. He applies lots of pressure with his kicking game and we missed that a lot and with our attack too. Take Pearce out of your side and you guys would struggle.

Souths will be better when Te'o comes back in 2 weeks as well his defense is great.

Congrats on winning the wrestle as well it is now a big part in teams game plans. You guys were clearly better in the ruck area last night. But I'm confident Souths will turn it around when we meet again. Can't wait

Is Teo back next week? If So Sutto may start from bench?

No he is out for 1 more game. He has had 3 out of his 4 weeks.

If Sutton starts Turner or McQueen will go to the bench.

We have missed Te'o more than I thought we would. We need his aggression.

I don't think you could possibly start Sutton on the form he showed last night. He'll be off the bench for sure.

I agree but I don't think Madge will go that way. I think Sutto will start and play the first 15-20 mins then McQueen would probably come on. I think Sutto will only be able to handle 40 mins in the back row as he is lacking match fitness.

I think McQueen and Turner will have more game than John regardless of who is starting and who is coming off the bench.

Good post. I watched the game and thought both sides took a lot out of the game. Roosters were impressive and got to a 22-2 lead through some good pressure play and some luck but you earn your luck sometimes. Souths made a few too many errors early and losing a man in the modern game when the sides are pretty evenly matched can be crucial. I was particulary pleased with the way we responded in the back end of the 2nd half - shows an improving mental side of the game for Souths. We have some strong leaders in this side and having Sutton back can only improve in this aspect.
Sutton was clearly rusty and tried but I think with Reynolds back we should be more fluent in what we do in attack. Sutton playing wide of the left hand side will give us another option and hopefully can bring Johnston into the attack more. It was a nice move for the Johnston try with Keary going to the line and neat inside pass.

I think that sides need another gear to go to when the pressure is on. Souths have been a little one dimensional in previous years but we do have the players to create something out of the ordinary. It's this extra factor, if executed properly, could be the difference between winning and losing these finals games.
Manly still have a quality backline. Let's hope the Keary v Lyon battle continues. We now know how to beat Manly - it's all again about execution, patience and controlled possession - if we maintain these we will at least get 50% of the ball and that should be enough for us to win....
