Still a 20 minute shut off... just a different place

I think I have worked it out.
The teams sugar levels are falling off as they await their customary lolly fix from you-know-who.
Arm the water boys with lollipops.
Sorted.

The combination of Omar in defence and Shaun inside him was scary tonight. Anybody who thinks Sly looked good was not at the game.
We will have to lift to beat the Broncos.
I hope we can , just mulling over whether I buy 2 tickets, dont want to see us get bruised.

On most occasions I didn't see the gaps on the edge being Slaimankhel's fault at all. On the Mead try, I actually thought he did fairly well to almost get Mead out. Looking closely at that play, the guy who makes the defensive error which throws out the defensive structure is Ben Henry. On about the second pass, Elijah Taylor is starting to slide out (rightly), Henry is almost sitting in his right pocket next to him. It essentially leaves Johnson and Slaimankhel to defend a third of the field on their own for no reason. In fairness to Ben, J'Ro would probably have been on the opposite touch line and 40 metres up field looking for an intercept so he's a heck of a defensive improvement on him, but one shouldn't overlook one or two of those types of mis-reads.

We definitely looked more stable when Matulino and Packer went off than we have in recent memory. I was worried about our typical lapses for this game especially given the boys body clocks, we tend to not do so well at the NZ 9:30pm kick offs. Might have been showing at the end there, or we just lack the killer instict. I'd say it's the latter.

I still don't understand why we play wingers. May as well just have a couple more second rowers out there. All they do is early set hit ups and miss tackles. Our edge attack is pretty woeful, we get bunched up and lose all structure, it's not very pretty. I think Hurrell is making us look better than we actually are, we rely so much on individual brilliance rather than being a cohesive attacking structure.

A wins a win, but I'm not convinced at all. We'll have to be much better vs the Broncs.

Stevie Rapz had a cracker against the Roosters (I think it was them?) last season. I look forward to seeing him in a Kiwis jumper some day.

He sure did, I don't think he suits the middle of the field, as I recall in that Roosters game he made numerous busts running wide that game.

Yeah he was denting the line running hard straight lines out on the edges, that's why I think he is wasted when he is used as a prop.

Regardless of the result, I was thinking with that short burst by Steve R was why I watch RL. It was highly entertaining. He can certainly throw himself about can't he. I didn't realise he was so mobile. He can change direction well. He offers something different to Ta'ai who is a great runner but not so good in defence. Rapira will certainly get opposition teams having a look before they run a line close to the edges of the ruck!

I'm happy to get the points, but still far from convinced about our ability against better teams. I think we still have far too much frailty.

On Hurrell. He showed terrific strength to get over against a fair amount of attention.

On Omar. He left too much space for the Meade try, but apart from that did nothing to invoke ire, and will hopefully learn. As has been mentioned, our compression was far too much, leaving the flanks exposed, Benry still instinctively tends to press in where the second rowers would normally be.

Locke seemed to be a little out-of-sorts. The two handling errors were quite uncharacteristic, he was however running the right lines, and apart from the hands, doing the right things.

I was very impressed by Friend. He was very busy all game.

Steve Rapira was also impressive. As has been mentioned, prop doesn't suit him, he's just a little too light. I much prefer to see him hitting the fringes at a milliion miles per hour (his natural style of play). He has great body position and technique for some of those hits he puts in.

Maloney showed good awareness throughout the game and kept us on the front foot whenever the ball came his way.

We were unduly punished for a couple of the errors we made. Sometimes that's just the way the ball bounces
