Yeah I must have completely missed it... Can't see where Vuna himself said he was looking for a way out..

"I spoke to his manager today, who's in England at the moment, and it sounds like he [Vuna] was leaning towards staying in Newcastle."

Quoted from a page back in the article posted.

Quite the set of blinkers you have on there...pretty typical argument around here. Things don't go your way so you take things literal. He didn't say he wanted out in the press, so obviously he didn't want out! It's a media beat up! His management, the Tigers management and the Knights management must have made all of this up because he wasn't quoted as saying he wants out!

If he didn't want out would have his manager been looking for options overseas and talking to the Tigers?

His quote is:

"The only thing that I know is I'm here and I'm going to try and get back in the squad," Vuna said.
"I'm just going to try toughing it out, and hopefully I get a game sooner rather than later."

The words of a guy clearly passionate about the club...

McDonnell himself said Vuna wants to stay in Newcastle lol. Who's to say the Tigers didn't approach us? we took McDonnell off them they are probably seeing if they could take someone from us.

As for England prob just exploring his options and seeing what interest is out there, but seems to me he'd like to stay here and start playing some footy.

I'm sure his not overly happy about his game time this year, but I also thinks it's a media beat up that he wants to get out of here. Seems clear to me he'd like to stay. And if he keeps getting dudded then I can't blame him if he takes the next step and goes.

I think Alex is mostly on the money here...and hopefully there's a few little wakeup calls for Cooper right now that will get him back on track. He's lost a bit of face on this one now I reckon, so will have to swallow a bit of pride and tough it out from here.

Jono = gullible fan-boy. Of course he wanted out. Managers don't meet other teams if the player wants to stay put...

So if I put resumes out there to see if there are "better" offers, the I want out of my current job?

Not as black and white as that.

I would say it was a bad couple of days for Vuna, on top of a whole year with 1 NRL game and he over reacted by looking at moving on.

Well it would suggest you either:-

1. Aren't happy with your current job. ( Or wage )

2. Are looking for a better place to ply your trade.

Bearing in mind, Vuna is contracted to his job for a set period of time.

And you say Jono is gullible. Do you acutally believe that managers aren't actively seeing if other clubs can offer their client a better deal while they are still under contract! Your final statement is ludicrous. Players wanting to stay put and actually being wanted are two very different things.

So you think that this is being instigated by other parties besides Vuna and his management?

I'm not sure how that can be any clearer. HIS MANAGEMENT is seeking opportunities in England. How can you say that Vuna is not behind any potential move away from Newcastle?

Are any of you guys actually reading this post, or does Cooper wave to you in the car park as well?

The Newcastle Knights have told Cooper that they will not stand in his way if he finds another club.

What is the bloke meant to do? The club doesn't really want him.

I have no dramas with Vuna looking for other offers.

The Club saying they will not stand in his way is no big deal.

I cant see how that translates into the Club not wanting him though.

Well it certainly doesn't translate into the club wanting him.

Clubs often want to keep decent players but have to try and make the best possible decision given whats put in front of them :) (eg salary cap)

How does this relate to Cooper? Well if I was the club and I had someone having a whinge about not being picked for first grade when he wasn't meeting the standards we had set for him...and he then asked if he could suss out a few options to weigh up with what he currently has, then I would definitely consider letting him do that as that sort of attitude would not be one I was trying to promote.

So the club should block a transfer request and make him play in the obscurity of the real NRL for the next 18 months.

I am sure we will sign plenty of players if thats how we treat players who want to look at options of playing first grade.

I dont think it is a question of WANT, I think it is more NEED. With our current squad there are few players who are irreplaceable.

2 points.

No , the club should not necessarily stand in the way of players, but it is not without precedent. If the club truly felt he was of real value and the club felt he was our best option in that position, he WOULD be blocked from leaving, and made to play out his contract. Look at Frank Pritchard at Penrith. It is all relative to the talent and overall skill of the player in question.

The other point is, by saying we don't necessarily NEED Vuna, the club is holding both Wes Naiqama and Keith Lulia in higher regard.

Wrong.

Surely its considered poor practice to try and keep someone who is unhappy, you can't make someone play if they don't want to...

The club would be well aware of his value, but has set standards for a reason - (forgetting Wicks for a minute) they have 3 outside backs more or less vying for the 1 position this week. The two least preferred options are putting in quality efforts each week and meeting the criteria that the club has set for them in terms of fitness etc. The most preferred option might be training hard but is not ticking all the boxes in his weekly preparation, so is not meeting the criteria that has been set for himself.

So its good to see that they are rewarding those who are making the effort - i'd much rather what we have now than like what we've seen in teams like Parra 2008 where it looked like nobody cared and they were all picked on reputation.

While all three are replaceable in terms of our team as a whole at the moment, of course I'd least like to lose Cooper.

But why is he unhappy?

I think seeing Lulia/Naiqama preferred over him recently might be a big part of it?

Also, a player doesn't go off half cocked either unless someone from the club/staff has been in his ear about his chances of getting back into top grade.

If you're not going to read and understand it when I explain it in detail perhaps you might when i quote it from the horses mouth ;-) this is why Lulia/Naiqama have been preferred to him recently:

He is also overweight, should the Club give him a fulltime advisor so he stops eating ice cream?

But I can tell you this, since his return from injury, he has known what is required to get him a start in NRL, and he has not met that requirement. It was by no means an impossible ask.

There you go, in a few short sentences :)

And Cooper maybe feels that if his unfit/fat performance earlier this year was anything to go by, it was already at a level better than his rivals?

I'd agree with him.
