WA BEARS

A Perth standalone team has basically no value for Aussie tv companies

Foxsports have said many times they want the bears back in
They were always getting a team regardless but the who and when changed drastically with Western Bears as opposed to stand alone or waiting for a firmer consortium (and I say firmer because until only a few months ago the funds just weren’t there).

All in the past now. All that I wrote doesn’t matter. Forwards and onwards.

What a clown.

Issue is running rampant in NRL. Trindall, Latrell, Ado Carr, Walsh, Wakeham, Holmes, Smith, Munster, Naden, J.Hopoate.

Past players like B.Stewart, Maloney, J.Smith, Proctor, J.Bromwich, Barba, Ferguson, Mullen, D.Taylor, Ogden, Lovett, S.Michael.

Can almost make a Cocaine 17.

Walsh
Fox
Holmes
Trell
Fergo
Munster
Maloney
Brom
Cheese
D.Taylor
Proctor
J.Hoppa
J.Smith

Rest make up the bench. Just missing a couple more forwards really. A few too many fullbacks as well.

Both sides almost fluffed it.

Anyone here notice that when the WA team is brought up PVL mentions the WA premier Roger Cook all the time and rarely mentions the WA consortium or NRLWA chairman?

From my understanding in the bits and pieces I’ve been told, there was an ultimatum.

Broadcasters (who pay for the game) had little faith in WA Consortium stand alone. The consortium has no IP, assets, big enough general public support (in their eyes). But they have location and a time slot of said location. There’s a pay off if it succeeds but no collateral to mitigate risk.

Bears have IP, assets, general public support but have no location. There is also risk and there is collateral but it’s useless without having somewhere to actually conceptualise it from.

If they didn’t unify then WA consortium would not have gotten the license and probably would be waiting another 10 years + until a more firm consortium came about. Bears alone would never get the license either.

So in the best interests of all the business men involved they were told get together and make it work or neither of them would be looked at with any real consideration in the immediate future.

Prior to all this WA Government had initiated talks with Bears long before the WA consortium was a genuine thing. There was always a contingency. That’s not to say WA Government would have pulled the strings and gone at it alone without consortium or bears or even with Bears but the money for that isn’t there. WA was always getting a team but the time line has increasingly shortened.

In short both were told to make it work or f**k off. That’s the offer.

Then after that came the deep negotiations between WA Consortium and Bears of the how’s, when’s, why’s, what’s etc etc.

Whatever was finalised was for the benefit of WA. ARLC were heavily involved in how it matured.
There’s no way of us knowing this. Regardless of bears involvement it’s clear the WA govt is backing the bid significantly. The bid had some pretty wealthy backers and Perth has shown they have the fanbase. Nrl wants 3 new teams and Perth was always going to be one of them.
But water under the bridge, bears backed down on the non negotiables and we can now move forward together.

Depends who you talk to and what their role in it all is I guess.

It wasn’t just a matter of Bears backing down from non-negotiables. That played a big role of course but it was also a case of WA Consortium having some commercial sense.

Remember that whilst Cumins original view was stand alone, once he knew that wasn’t going to happen in the immediate future he quickly started using the “we will look at organisation a) & b) if it makes sense” and the whole “commercial beast” lingo/language. From there a partnership was born relatively quickly. Here we are now, Western Bears.

ARLC made the parties sort it out and make it work and everyone tried to save face there on after re: non-negotiable and stand alone chats. No biggie, just is what it is. In the past now, I only bring it up because both parties were being stubborn and bullish. Not just one or the other.

End of the day it’s a Western Australian rugby league team.

Wheres their CofE? wheres their funding for Jnrs?
A stadium is but one piece of the puzzle and when the rumoured upgrades to HBF are made it will be a perfectly adequate NRL stadium. We dont need a roof in Perth :)

Don’t need to spend money on juniors as they are there in large numbers all over nz

And they also have a second roofed stadium in Dunedin for games

23 percent of all nrl players originate from nz

Youre honestly saying the the Sth Island of NZ doesnt need to spend any money participation or on jnr development? cuckoo cuckoo

Fish where the fish are

Participation prizes don’t mean much (wa junior numbers)

Your bragging about how much the wa govt is spending on Perth and it’s not all that

The tie up with the bears is probably more crucial to the teams success

you brought up govt spending lol.
reality is Chrcurch is only getting a stadium (as nice as it is) WA is allegedely going to be getting an upgraded stadium, a centre of excellence and increased Jnr funding. Which would you prefer, I know what I would!
