Hey take 20 million of that “investment” out and put it in the bid and we wouldn’t have anything to argue about

The fed govt did that for png
Thats up to WA govt if it thinks giving 17 other NRl clubs WA taxpayer money is a good idea or not. Considering the NRL only stated what they wanted a few days ago that may well happen now. Maybe they could have said it 10 weeks ago and saved this mess?

One of my good friends is great mates with Michael Searle. When the whole shyte gabang went down with the Titans my mate defended Searle and his "supposed" actions to the hilt, and so he should, thats a mate of his.
In saying that, he wasn't listening clear enough to what exactly happened, he was only taking info from Searle.
After about 5 years he finally admitted to me that Searle had fecked up, but his heart was in the right place.
I see correlations going on in here.

For those who keep hampering on about other teams who have joined the NRL after inception and not having to pay a fee.
If the NRL back in mid 00's had done their due diligence with the Titans, there would not have been the train wreck it became.
The NRL does not want another Titans scenario.
Think of it this way, if the Cumins Consort put up the $20M without question, guess what they would have achieved?
They would have achieved a guarantee from the NRL that they would gain the same cut as every other team, and they would have bought a guarantee of survival, just like every other team gets.

One day supporters of Cumins will see that he really did f*&k this up.
That's why a BG is the way to go.

no it wasnt. $20mill was only stated a few days ago, hence the NRLs response to all but one of the bids. Theyve fcked this up big style. When every bid clearly hasn't met expectations of a tender it suggest there may have been something wrong with the tender process.

He gave it up, according to the article.

The Bears have really dropped the ball here, some guy got on the beers and bought up all the Bears IP

Who is running them? Old Boomers with no idea?
There’s nothing stopping any one of us from preempting the next expansion (or dare I say relocation) and doing the same thing.

See that's an issue right there with the thought process.
They aren't "giving the clubs money" they are buying into a company. It just so happens that the clubs are part owners of the company.
And when the next round of buy-ins occur the WA team would have got their share.

well that depends, if the bid walk away over this then either the NRl has to find the money (that would be funny as) or they lose $480mill of investment in the game in WA. Neither a great outcome for the game.
Or the bid finds some more money NRL gets its cash grab, everyone is left with a bad taste in the mouth but Vlandys does what a bookie does best and leaves the track with a suitcase full of cash and the misery behind him.

Why it couldnt have been handled professionally behind closed doors like most business lord only knows. Vlandys does like his moments in the spotlight.
Sigh. Round and around we go.

Thought you were focussing on Hull KR this week?

them be the facts. At no point in time has the NRL stipulated that A) a license fee is mandatory and B) what their expectations of that license fee is. Well not until three days ago! If they had the tender document would have been worded very differently.

Peter Beattie told Cummins twice he had to pay a significant fee

He ignored that and decided to pay zero

And the last buy in from the Dolphins was a waived $5 million

The Bears allegedly have $4 million on stand buy for this, and entered zero be ause they feel like they had a valid case as a genuine expansion market.

I'm sure they were willing to negotiate around this $4 million and by all accounts $20 million caught everyone by surprise

Again make that implicit in the tender then. I dont have a problem with the idea of a license fee (though I do think it takes money away from investing more in a new club properly which is a dumb thing to do)
Dont leave it to interpretation by asking 'what would you pay'. If the NRl wanted a $20mill license fee from any bid they should have stipulated that at the beginning.

apparently not. and again who says it in a conversation then doesn't have it in a tender criteria? That's just ridiculous and leaves it open to creating the mess its now in where none of the bids have met expectations.
