Tell me why NRL wants bears / Perth bid?!
Tv time slot
major new market
national profile attracting new sponsors
strongest grassroots footprint outside of the heartlands
backing of state govt
millionaire investors
Decent size active fanbase
suitable stadium

and that’s before we even consider the bears link up.

but you already knew all that so I have to ask why you asked the question?

PVL is just as much of a puppet, it's why the Murdoch media sing his praises so much lol I doubt expansion or Redcliffe was his decision, some nameless suits in Surry Hills or probably New York made it.
The only one who wasn't a puppet was Dave Smith. We all saw what News Ltd did to him for not toeing the line. The game is still under News Ltd's control.
Some Sydney clubs do have undue influence at the arlc that’s true

the roosters primarily then souths. But all the nrl clubs have been pretty united lately about issues

until there’s another pay tv company to take the rights keeping news ltd happy is a smart move

it is what it is
It's a pity because everyone is harmed by this, including the Sydney clubs. None of the Sydney clubs benefit from having so many competitors. It's impossible for any of them to grow to the level of the Broncos when they're competing with eight other teams for sponsors and media coverage in the same market. There's only so much money, TV channels and time slots.

The kindest thing the ARLC could do is free things up so that six or seven clubs can become big and strong enough to have AwFuL looking over their shoulder. Six Sydney clubs averaging 30k at modern stadia will improve the game's profile and attract higher end sponsors. If we want to be taken seriously around the world then we will need to generate strong crowds. A great game played in front of a near empty stadium makes it look unimportant and mediocre. Put a big crowd around it and suddenly people want to be involved. It's why Origin is such a big spectacle around the country.

Penrith don't benefit from local rival in Parramatta..

Leagues club/pokie money.... how did we all forget this people, plus instant history/brand and a revert to a nostalgic idea that the bears were never meant be turfed... best part is it'll use WA as a base but pokie funded from sydney... nioce!

Leagues club has more stability than millionaire owner.

Bears brand will potentially attract interest in biggest NRL markets (Sydney & Brisbane) that Perth team won't, especially manly games..

Finally bears offers out if Perth turns into gws money pit. Could move back to north Sydney / central coast

Theyll never move back, i can tell you why... what manly did to them they'll never want to justify it, by doing it themselves... its a f**kwit move

really? How’d that worked out for souths, balmain, dragons, Steelers, panthers until bailed out by a millionaire? The only millionaire that’s not worked is tinkler at knights. The pokie geenration is dying out, good luck with your LC in 20 years time.

Because vlandys is a one eyed nsw man. The idea of bringing back a dead Sydney brand is his idea of progress for the game. He can’t see past tribalism despite the fact the biggest clubs dont need it to be successful.

Be honest. What do you perceive are the weaknesses of the Perth reds bid?!

Dolphins selected as latest expansion with strong club behind them. Previous expansion model being titans needed to be taken over by NRL & then shopped around. I think solution to tigers problem was getting wests & their strong club(s) to kick in more money

What news ltd want, news ltd get.

if an nrl club can’t prosper on the strength of the football operations and is reliant on a pokie den bailing them out every year there is clearly something wrong with the competition. I mean they basically get half the needed revenue from the nrl grant. If they can’t generate the other half from customers and sponsors then the game has problems It’s papering over By constantly relying on pokie dens to consider a club a viable option.

Jnr pathways and the fact it’s not in nsw or qlnd and we have a very narrow minded chairman calling the shots.

Ask a politician a question..

Perth is rusted on afl city with little support for NRL despite ur protestations. Will make building fanbase tough & lean spell on field will be precarious.

Like suns & gws will probably generate little interest in home town but also elsewhere. Look at fox number for those clubs.

lol you asked, those are the two weaknesses I can see in the possible bid at the moment. Jnrs we can sort with partnership, myopic nrl leadership not much we can do about,

What makes you say that re fans? What evidence base are you going on Or is it just your biased opinion?
From what I’ve seen here I have no concerns that a perth club cant match the bigger current nrl clubs for attendances and memberships. 16k avg crowd and 25k members Is definitely doable within our first decade, especially of the stadium get another upgrade and increased capacity.

lol they said the same about the swans in their first ten years, now they are the best supported sports club in Sydney, Rome isn’t built in day. How’s storm going for fans and tv audiences?

ah the old rusted on bs. That must be why every professional sport in the country has a team in perth EXCEPT Rugby League lol.
