WA had 10k players 30 years ago. Get WA numbers up and NS numbers up and player production wont be an issue as long as the clubs invest in the pathways properly. NS will require more funding, if that comes from the Western Bears club or Norths LC is something we dont really know yet. the WB bid had stated the start of it was to fund 4 positions in the NSFC.
I would suggest the current level of bears leagues club funding is a reflection of being a nsw cup side and not what they can afford

Why spend more of their money producing kids that will go to other nrl clubs

33 percent fall in terms of clubs shows the picture clearly enough

Throw in 20 years of population growth and it shows the potential

The whole north shore has got flooded with units

Sure a lot of the demographics of Chatswood won’t be league but the whole area has changed from the late 90s

Even the north Sydney skyline has filled out a lot with residential towers
So North Sydney has potential .. but Perth who once has 10,000 plus players in the 90s when they had a pathway and have had extremely high population growth since doesn't have the potential?

The Townsville Part of the National Schoolboys comp is 8 teams.

7 for a state shows how far behind it is
I dont think anyone is arguing that, but it's not $120mill behind lol

Its actually in a city, all the schools in the program are in Perth metro at the moment. It would be good to get SW schools involved.

eh? Perth jnrs will be playing in Sydneys elite jnr comps. Id expect at least a Hm ball, SG ball and Flegg side to be run out of WA eventually, complimented by improved NS teams in those comps.
Pointless debate anyway, WA govt has told Vlad to sick it if he thinks hes getting $120mill out of them :)
You act bizarrely for someone who claims to be a Rugby League fan and claims to want the best for WA Rugby League.

lol .. Yeah … of course…$275m or whatever the figure is of Aust taxpayer money being spent on pathways would hopefully produce results

they need it … because their results to date of producing NRL level players has been poor …even after playing in the QLd cup for 15 years … it is a very small list of players who have stepped up into the NRL

Don’t assume this is just a matter of flipping a switch just because the PNG NRL team gets announced … this will still take a long time to get results after a lot of effort

I don't assume it is a switch it is a 10 year process BUT at the very least they have a 2 year headstart on Perth and who knows how long headstart on NZ 2.

So even they will be further along with their systems

Isn't the point of the link with the bears to link them up with NSW? Cheers
Yes but you can only take so many players. Meaning a bunch of the next tier kids will miss out. Short term solution is to play them in QRL where there is systems that already exist until such time that the WA comp is of better standard.

That was always my point. It was never intended to be a long term solution and it is to alleviate having two teams in the same comps.

And it makes them eligible for QLD………..

Yep totally understand that attitude from them. Why my hope is that Norths will up the $300k contribution to something more significant for the NS pathways side of it.

Not compared to Sydney it doesn’t

It’s competing with afl for juniors and afl is heavily entrenched in wa. The wce are one of the biggest clubs in Australia of any code

And I’m not saying Perth has no potential for juniors it will do better than Melbourne

Having the force die off would be a huge benefit to a Perth nrl side

All the money twiggy spent on juniors will go to league

Depends on how you treat them

Ie as partners or a nuisance

They have to feel it’s their club too

we can thank the NRL for that, should never have binned the Pirates SG ball team!

Next tier kids won't be first grade standard so what's the point. Cheers.

Which is where NS comes into the equation for WA. Id hope we'd be looking at a QRL club as well so we can scout the best jnrs on the East coast and have them stay local whilst coming through our amalgamated systems.
But from a WA perspective, get 7k participants, get elite pathways properly developed and we will be adding to our East coast pool with a decent WA one. Id guess (and dont have the data to back this up) but for most clubs I doubt more than 50% of their starting 20 or so players come from their own systems. everyones buying and letting go players all the time. If I was WA id also have a scouting system in UK looking at the best 15-17 year old kids over there and aim to being a couple a year over into Sg ball to give them a shot. Its a global market.

I agree, which is why Id like to see some sensible proposition from the NRL! '
$2mill from NRL and $2mill from WA govt a year to NRLWA. NRL club to guarantee at least $2mil a year is spent on setting up the elite pathway sides.

That sounds a reasonable ask from all parties wouldn't you agree? Vlad asking for $120mil is as much a pss take as asking $20mil license fee!
Its like NRl is trying to set this up to not happen with their unrealistic requests!
There is no way this poster is going to the support the club that WA will actually get given this language. It’s arrogant and assumptive.

They only won’t be first grade standard is resources aren’t put into them and they aren’t testing themselves against the best. You honest believe the next best 17 won’t have gems in that squad that won’t crack top level?

Cronk and Thurston didn’t look like first grade material at 14 and 15 when they played for Souths Acacia Ridge and Souths Sunnybank. How did that work out for them? There were much better kids in front of them.

There’s already systems in place for WA kids to come to QLD. All you’re doing is improving that system to cater for more kids. You’re being naive for the sake of arguing here.

Hey kids in the North Shore towers!

How would you like to play rugby league for your local team?

Yes, you say? Great, we'll get you tickets to Perth straight away.

Actually, you're probably not good enough. So you're actually going to Queensland.

Well f**k off to you too.
