Aint a lot to be complimentary about. On the face of it, they arent travelling well or moving up rapidly. It doesnt bode well, but the league itself has a longer term view.

I mean the Swans and Lions both went bankrupt twice in their first decade and they are still here
I’ve said this before the best thing about afl is how they back their expansion clubs one hundred percent via grants and draft picks whilst the nrl just throws its new clubs in the deep end

And the existing clubs are way more pro expansion than insular nrl clubs

Look at the funding difference in afl which strong clubs accept. That would have zero chance of being accepted by nrl clubs even when the rich ones won’t be hurt by it

Which is untrue anyway, if Bears hadnt been forced on Perth we would have likely had the WC Pirates brand back and elevated to NRL level (if the consortium had got up).
Not true

Without the bears you wouldn’t have had a license

Pvl made that clear from the start

NRL has gone the other route, giving every club enough money so the poorest ones are ok even though the richest ones dont need it. No choice really given the fact the clubs still run the game in reality unlike AFL where their commission seems to be far more powerful and less influenced by the clubs.

At this moment in time due to the leadership we have. And thats the point, Sydney centric Vlandys wants Bears back, Perth is just an opportunistic vehicle willing to pay to make it happen.

There is absolutely no reason at all that with a rich consortium willing to spend $30mill+ and a State Govt willing to spend $400mill+ Perth shouldnt have had its own club.

I don't recall the consortium mentioning the Pirates at all before the Bears & Jets each put forward their case to the consortium back in June.

thats because until recently more than half the clubs werent profitable so of course the nrl went the other way. no option but to.

I’ve had my issues with PR in the past but I don’t consider him to be a liar. If he’s bitter about the NRLs treatment of Perth, then he has reason to as it’s been farcical.

The consortium backing was smoke & mirrors. NRL dodged a bullet, although Vlandys wasn't even talking to their chairman.

Tell that to any other nrl boss before Pvl and you still wouldn’t have a club

Linking with the bears derisks Perth at the cost of one home game and using the bears instead of pirates logo.

Whoopie do

Pirates was a Cumins backed brand and jnr system. Whilst it was never mentioned (in fairness they didnt get the chance) I am confident that is what they would have gone with if the Bears hadnt been forced on us.

confidence stem from your secret sources who are always wrong? coffee dates with insiders? or just a clueless opinion?

also nrl dont wanna deal with cumins. the muttering fool isnt wanted in the game that much has been made apparent.

also with forced, did anyone force west aussie government to approach bears in 2022? like you cant keep up with the time line of your own backyards goings

No unnamed backers were revealed other than Sydney King, who was a late addition after official submission.
