North's need to wise up and f**k off.

Seriously, they need to stop worrying about the NRL, go away, and work on building themselves up.

Their goal should be to make themselves so appealing they don't need to hijack somebody else's team. Maybe start by bidding for an independent NRLW side, or keep on keeping on in the NSW Cup, IDK it doesn't really matter, but don't even look at bidding for the NRL again until you're getting competitive crowds at NSO, pushing at least 10k football club members, and capable of backing an NRL side independently.
They got the head of game hellbent of them returning. They'd be stupid not to take advantage .

Where you been bro? Never heard a peep out of you when PNG got the nod,,,

there is only one thing that is really going to matter and that js the TV deal …they are the most watched sport in the country so they need to be paid accordingly..

Also could be a little premature to be dancing on the grave of the Perth NRL team just yet ….another twist in this long road wouldn’t be a surprise
Yep you beat me too it. @The Great Dane jumping in to celebrate and pretend like he predicted this the whole time 😂 😂 😂

You did say that at the time …although I think Cook had to try to defend himself against the crap they were printing …

I think things started to go off the rails when Peter Badel and Brent Read wrote that rehashed article full of old quotes and printed it during the WA election campaign … the WA AFL rag seized on the incorrect mention of the term $120m “license fee” which had already been previously written about in the SMH as payment for junior development funds

Cook had a huge majority he was always going to win

He should’ve just been open pre election rather then made a huge hole for himself now

Yeh that was a bad article and I think your right the afl media picked up with jt

It was never 120 million license fee

Yet there are record ratings now ? So I’m not buying your arguments about the general perceptions of the game or that they are narrowing their supporter base … personally I think there are issues with the refereeing standards as a whole … lot of games only 1 team seems to get penalised for ruck infringements ( normally the weaker side) and also when they get the penalties/ six agains ( first or last tackle ) is critical in who ends up winning the games
The fact that the NRL's ratings are higher now than ten years ago is no more evidence of the competition on the field being better quality today than ten years ago, than the fact that McDonald's is the largest restaurant chain in the world means that their food must be the highest quality in the world...

Marvel is another example if you don't like the Maccas one. It's the most successful movie franchise of all time, but nobody in the right mind would say that means that their movies are the best quality.

Many factors go into a product being more or less successful other than just their perceived value. That's especially true of an entertainment product where the reasons why people are attracted to them can be quite esoteric.

PVL's whole agenda is prioritising the "tradition" and "tribalism". He's been tapping into that niche and cementing institutional power since he started, and it's left most of the people outside the Qld and NSW RL fraternity bubble as even more of an after thought than we've been in a long time. The ACT may as well not exist to the people at head office, and the Raiders only rate a mention when they have something to offer the NRL (like the ability to take a home game to Magic or Vegas), and it's not just us either.
Comparing the NRL to the NBA, NFL … that’s heady company there ..I think an NBA game may as well start at the two minute to go mark and playing 82 generally meaningless games sure ain’t my bag …, but to each their own … and like the rest of the world I love the NFL …
I didn't compare the NRL to the NBA or NFL...

I simply said I find some of the current events in those sports, and others TBH, more interesting than the goings on in the NRL at the moment.
Word is now that Perth NRL won’t be announced anytime soon … like a year or two … maybe they might start again in the meantime
That's not the word I'm hearing.

Did the Perth media get their way ?
IMO Perth media influenced by ch7 owner. (Stokes), AFL I'll put my left one on that and out of left field Twiggy Forrest who is backing the Force. Plus Cook after his election win does not want to upset the taxpaying AFL public.
PVL has to be certain any new team has the financial strength for the long term from the initial start up(expensive) to the annual running costs in perpetuity .
It's important to have a Perth team but its gotta be on solid financial ground ,not half hearted and drift off after a couple of years.

It won’t be any different the next time though will it ? The shitty AFL media will still be against them … probably more emboldened given they have had some success this time ..
Forrest and the Force would actually benefit themselves with the stadium upgrade

Thing the nrl and people on here continues to ignore about tassie is the AFL are also committing massive funds to tasmania. As far as we know nrl has offered nothing to this deal beyond the normal club grant.
Tasmania initial costs :
State Govt to pay $375m( a state struggling for money)
Feds $240m
AFL $ 15m
Grand total $630m

Costs now increased to $775m for a population of 575,000
The AFL going to pay for the $145m increase . No way Jose. The $15m sure don't look massive based on those figures.

They're not full of shit. They're just delusional.

The Bears really believe their own BS, and the noisy tard wing of the Bears fanbase eats it all up.

I've been saying it for decades now; the biggest thing holding the Bears back are the Bears themselves and the entitled f**kwit portion of the fanbase who're incapable of moving on from the past.

It's difficult to have any respect for them anymore when they've spent so long trying to steal other people's teams after spending decades whinging about having their own stolen. There's just a total lack of principles around the joint anymore.
Can someone take Grandpa Simpson here back to the nursing home? He's yelling at a tree again

That’s just the stadium and is ignoring the $136mill the afl committing to put into grassroots there.

Nah, I'm just not a blind follower.

I have a memory and I'm capable investigating events and coming to my own conclusions. The Bears and the handful of fans they've got left have built a nice mythology for themselves, but the reality that's all it is.

A bit of bad luck and a string of bad decisions since about 95 has put them where they are today.
Good call. If it wasn't for a surprise run of form in the 1990s (lpartially built on recruiting Queensland talent for key positions), I dare say Norths wouldn't have anywhere near the demand for a comeback they have now.

As far as Norths goes, the early-mid 1990s are their rose-tinted glasses, covering up decades of mediocrity that went before that.. and it was a return to form when they absolutely fumbled their business tactics (via a VERY Bears-style mix of bad management & bad luck) from the mid 1990s to the mid-2000s.

Those who think Christchurch is a better market are f**king morons. WB you are better than this, Perth is the best market in for NRL to tap into, NQAT.

Those who think if the NRL had accepted the October 2024 bid then everything would've been tickety boo are also f**king morons. The WA Government have been shown to be untrustworthy with the NRL, goodness knows how much they would've let down a bid from a pawn broker.

Not saying Perth Oval is not a viable location considering Kogarah and Shake Park are somehow NRL venues but Rugby Roger has really shit the bed. If you don't think he would've f**ked over Cummins like he did PVL, then I have some magic beans to sell you.

So disappointing.

It was very much bad luck that can all be pinpointed to that one final season.

Of course there was some bad management with player salaries going up 300% during SL, but their biggest fumble was being too accommodating and not taking the Piggins route.
