Presuming wa election is first week of March it’s likely caretaker mode will start first week off Feb. Xmas two weeks off for everyone, 7 weeks left to overcome the remaining hurdles get a deal signed off, treasury and cabinet agreement etc.

it’s looking likely cook will still be premier after the event so if not done we’ll be mid to end of March time before announcements. That’s really pushing it for 2027 start up.

shame if they’d accepted the western bears bid we’d now have the announcements, a coach, ceo, pathways planned and be talking to players.

surprised there’s been no leaked news from last weeks club meeting. I’d have expected if things were looking lined up they’d have got in principle agreement from clubs for png and Perth and we might have heard something.
its a shame that the nrl didn't accept a bung bid? thats great news the game isn't accepting subpar deals. cumins knew what he had to do and didn't do it. good on the nrl for standing their ground.

as for leaks from club meetings. if there's a news article calling a papua announcement then that kinda says the clubs are good as gold for expansion and it's time to roll out the announcements. otherwise the article wouldn't have existed.

it wasn’t a bung bid, even less so given they came back with the license fee.
end of day nrl has lost the license fee and will have to invest $20 mill+ of its own money now In start up and 2 months on still no announcement.

We’ve known png bid has been accepted since gf day. Nothing new in that. It’s clear they are waiting to see if they can get wa over the line so they can announce team 18 and 19 together. the article contained no new news.

yeah but nrl can control the club and make it profitable off their own accord until its time to sell it off. if that west aussie cumins & bear co bid team was struggling to rake in the funding to begin with it then it doesn't exactly scream confidence does it?

Don’t think it was a case of struggling at all, they managed to come up with another $20mill in space of a couple of weeks. I think the license fee was a red herring and this was nrls preferred plan all along. They could have got a license fee and start up costs covered. They’ve chosen not to.

theyll need to recoup $40mill + investment. Theve said they want it to be members owned so unlikley to take in a big sale figure When they are ready to let go.
