Yes, but someone mentioned they wouldn't stop another bid from using it, there was a guy from North Ryde (who was a bears fan) that bought a few versions of the team names, was really just making sure that any bears bid got the name, wasn't asking for anything in return

I liked Western at first because I thought nobody will call them that in short form, they'll just be called the Bears, but during the brief time the bid was the Western Bears it seemed apparent that way too many people were assuming it was Norths merging with the Western Reds.

Can we just cut straight to all teams being "The"?

I've just spent the last 6 hours chanting and I agree with you on this one stalker bear.
WA Bears! WA Bears! WA Bears!: rolled off the tongue, lovely continuity, mistake potential very low.
Perth Bears! Berth Pears! Perth Bears! Smurf Chairs!: high risk of mispronunciation was a major issue.

Admittedly these tests weren't done naked under the fig tree so it might change the results.

after today you would expect all expanio media talk to be about getting this club into the comp. its been reported that the clubs and broadcasters are pushing for west aussies as it adds considerably more value than papua to them. its a shame they were leapfrogged as an announcement by papua but then again were they really leap frogged? still think west aussies come in as team 18 and get announced soon.
