I loved how he said you just can't win, we rushed in redcliffe, and people said we needed to give them dispensation, then we give png long notice and now tax breaks, and they say it's unfair on the cap,

....U JUST CANT WIN!!!

I don't think it matters to V'landys one bit tbh. If he listened to every dissenting opinion out there he'd basically end up being Mr David Umm Ahh Gallop. Leadership means sticking to your guns and knowing you're never going to please everybody. Nor are you going to get everything right. But I can tell you, if a leader keeps backtracking on what they say they're going to do, that's when the sharks begin to circle.

Once V'landys decides on something, he's like a bull at the gate. Some people love his approach, others will hate it. Either way, it doesn't matter to him.

good thing he has decided he wants to go to west aussie and wants bears then. he has arguably been more vocal on this than papua.

and if he wasn't he wouldnt have instantly moved from cumins consortium to west aussie gov after rejecting consortium.

Pointing out png loves rugby league whilst wa doesn’t is just reality

It’s why their govt is doing everything to get a team whilst wa is prevaricating over spending an extra 100 million
There are plenty of people in WA who do love RL though. But you keep talking it down.

So the WA Govt has committed to a license fee…is that new?

What specifically is PVL awaiting …ie the WA Govt “response “ …. To what?
Yes, they have always been adamant they wouldn't pay any of the clubs start up or running costs. Be interesting to know if true or not.

It’s not a large figure

You keep talking down a nation of 17 million that loves the sport and would do anything for it

Bringing them in brings in more fans than a Perth side who at best will get 100k total fans engaged

Never said it was, but its not zero either which is what you claimed. Its enough to offer a strong foundational start for NRL interest to grow from. And I suspect the 50-100k RL fans in WA will generate more revenue for the NRL than the millions in PNG (Govt handouts aside)

They won’t generate more than png but that’s not the point every club has its positives

Got any recent updates ? ??

Sounds like things are heating up!

No, I understand in principle agreements have been reached and now its going through the mechanisms of Govt. Seems everyone is happy with where it has landed so hopefully just formalities.
But Ive learnt to never count my chickens when it comes to RL and WA, or dealing with Govt's!

Informal discussions were held for Albo to help with the stadium upgrade

Wouldn’t surprise me if he tips into it
Possible but not a big vote winner, Id have thought there'd be bigger infrastructure projects in WA the Feds will fund to get some brownie points before State and Fed elections happen.

Don’t think Albo is too worried about votes rn with bringing in png

It makes it more palatable for the state govt that it’s not just them funding it

Amounts have never been confirmed or denied. ( I heard (unconfirmed) the original offer was in the $400-450mill range)
The only additional funding we have become aware of from the initial offer are:
1. Free rent for HBF stadium for undisclosed period
2. 1:1 matched funding for NRLWA (I guess the amount will depend on how much more the NRL is willing to put into grassroots in WA)
3. The estimated temp accommodation costs at Ken Allen field ($14million or so). The Western Bears bid were going to pick this up.

So really only 1&2 are extra funding areas compared to where we were at 3 months ago as 3. was being paid for by the bid.

Paying a license fee is new news and goes against what the Govt has said up to now. If true or not we shall see depending on level of detail that gets released.

PVL is waiting for the WA govt to go through its sign off processes and make it official, I hope!

The NRL’s ultimate goal is to expand to 20 teams and negotiations with the WA government to introduce a Perth team have progressed to the point that an official announcement could be made within “two to three weeks.”
A Perth team could potentially enter the competition in 2027, a year earlier than PNG.
“It’s in the hands of the West Australian government,” V’landys said. “We’ve made them aware of what our requirements are ... So if that all translates into a deal, I think that will be done very shortly.”
Pressed on whether that could be ratified for Christmas, V’landys said: “Hopefully it’s under the tree, but I’m not sure.”
