Wa govt have been a huge pain in the ass to deal with unlike the feds and png

They had no problems quickly sorting out a deal where a Melbourne afl club gets paid one million a game but giving money to a Perth nrl club is a so called no no

Based on that deal an nrl team is worth at least 12 million pa in funding from the state govt
There’s been a tonne of public backlash at that deal. They are trying to spin it as taking afl to the country but nobody here is buying it. If they are coping that much flak for $6mill afl spending imagine it for rugby league when they announce $500million lol

Just a reminder why the wait, Vlandys got greedy, WA told him to take a hike, renegotiations continue. Could have had a team announced 3 months ago..

The WA government confirmed it had rejected the NRL’s initial funding request but would not discuss the figure proposed by the rugby league body. It is still offering to upgrade HBF Stadium and build a high-performance facility.

WA government insiders say it has no interest in pouring tens of millions of dollars of taxpayer money into what amounts to a “subsidy” for the NRL just months out from an election in a state where rugby league is viewed as a peripheral sport.

“The reason we have a strong budget is because we are disciplined with our spending decisions,” a senior WA government source said.

Hopefully it gets announced mid january. I think Cook will spin the hbf park upgrade and RLHQ as much as, maybe even more. than getting an nrl club if announced pre election.
People here won’t be happy about the gov paying for a prof sports club, but announcing $400mill for jnr sport and hbf park will be an easier political sell. Be interesting to see if the opposition use it in the election against him.

The license fee will be a political killer if they have actually paid it. Sports Infrastructure and jnr sport is a fair spend for state gov, giving a rich prof sport $20mill for a club license much less so. IF, and I don’t think they have, they have paid the license fee out of tax payers money that could bite them hard.
I’ll say this once.

WA Gov are not funding a professional sports team. They were asked to fund pathways programs which include junior development in both schools and local clubs and infrastructure upgrades which include local suburban fields + HBF stadium.

NRL as it stands, would fund the professional sports team.

That’s fair enough I would’ve thought there would be no backlash at all with the afl deal

As for this above the requested amount hasn’t changed but merely the allocation of what NRL has asked for and how it’s distributed. There must be a clear direction and cost spending schedule to match and line up with what NRL has asked for. Like all governments with spending, all costs will be scrutinised.

Your personal take on this thing is sliding down the leg side for a wide and no where near the stumps mate.

Once the bears are confirmed he will disappear from this thread like he did png

Always on the wrong side of history

And a chip on the shoulder when it comes to rugby league

Bestest fan ever !!!

Remember when he was saying the bears were a dead club and would have nothing to do with this bid

They are alive and kicking !

@alwayswrong
Wtf are you on about now?
There's nothing to post in the png thread peanut.
I do say that the bears are failure who should have nothing to do with Perth.

You're trying too hard me lad. All the people you are trying to impress are gone or in the peanut gallery.

Only a few more sleeps to your flag game.

well Wb has been saying wa govt is now paying the license fee, or do you think Vlandys has given up on that?

vlad asked for $12mill a year to match tassie deal, wa govt quite rightly pointed out that afl was also putting in $125mill to grass roots funding in tassie to match govt funding. Hence why they have offered matched funding with what ever nrl puts into NRLWA (currently under $1mill a year nrl puts into WA) .

Pvl got greedy bc he saw the kangaroos getting one million a game then figure 12 Perth home games should be worth 12 million

That’s his job

He’s gotten extra money on the stadium and more money for juniors

So it was worth it

Also nth Melbourne deal with wa govt is for 1 million per game

11 perth nrl games is close to 12 million

Pvl obviously saw that deal and used it as a benchmark for rugby league

Pvl is literally doing his job you and others like you should be happy he is

The bigger grass roots ask (plus whatever we dont know about) would have had to be extra, or else the funding for ten stadium and cofe is co promised. We do know for sure TuneIn g down the western bears bid meant the state govt is now going To spend around $14mill on temp accomodation which the bid were going to cover.

What I have heard is the govt has agreed to increase the shs program from the original offer of 14 schools to 20 schools. ( currently has 6 schools in it). Offered to cover costs of 6 new development officers for WA and has offered to match funding nrl gives to nrlwa, that amount will depend on if nrl ups its current sub $1mill grant.

Which is great, but like any deal if one party keeps asking too much eventually the other party walks away.

The more money for grassroots the better as far as I’m concerned, I’ll be very pssed if they pay a license fee, that is misuse of tax payers imo. But what I dont want is the nrl to be unrealistic and screw the deal up.
It sounds like we are pretty close to agreement on both sides and hopefully this delay is just mechanisms of govt to sign off on such a large sum.
when my source said there was still lots of hoops to go through he didn’t clarify unfortunately if that was nrl demand issues or govt mechanisms.

The TAS Government has rolled over and given the afl whatever it’s asked for. It cost it a heap of votes. And that’s in a state which is totally afl dominated. How anybody expected the wa government to offer similar concessions in a state where league is 2nd tier is delusional especially in the lead up to an election. Unless you are a member of the peanut gallery. Over to you WB.

Pretty sure it’s a done deal

This ain’t rocket science

Your team will be one million times stronger than the original 1995 version

Newish 27k rectangle v oval
Nrl grant 17.5 million v sc 12.5 million
Bears members and history plus leagues club

If the club is set up well from the start they will be better than half the current nrl clubs

Haha that’s some dumb logic! They’ve structured it to promote the new direct flight from melbourne to margaret river. Fly into Bunbury airport, watch your team then spend the week in margs before heading to perth to see them at optus the following weekend. Be interesting to see how many nth melb fans it brings over for the week.

most perth nrl games will be lucky to get 100 travelling fans to them In reality.

Norths LC have shown no Indication they are providing anything.

ironically despite all the mo ey now the original reds development plan was huge and included massive investment in WARL systems and clubs as well as three grades running out of Perth. I’d say this is a weaker scenario for WA we are getting than 30 years ago.

no doubt there will be potential, but then I remember them saying warriors would match broncos and be the the strongest club. Nothings guaranteed.

you saying previous reds would still be stronger than a new west Aussie bears? how you come to that guess? warriors and cows have had their own issues since 95 and are in far superior rl regions. how would a club in a non rl region possibly been stronger than those 2 when they were already wobbling longer before those two were?

You spent 20 years telling us how the nasty arl set them up to fail by making them pay travel costs and reserve grade

You didn’t even think the original Perth club would’ve survived the 95 season

Some of the rugby league expansionists are dead set embarrassing how they think it’s ok for afl to get more than rugby league

That’s the attitude that has seen rugby league struggle for 30 years
