Back in the early 90s … I understand Red was getting the train from Hull down to Australia House in London every week , to read the Aussie papers and keep up to date with the Perth ARL bid ..
Haha is this where I pull the LU card ‘ what would an east coaster know about what’s happening in perth’?

look if you and pies want to disbelieve what I’m saying good for you, I know who I’ve talked to and what they’ve told me. all I’ve heard from you is your opinions with no evidence to back them up. So 2025.
Pies is a troll, and not a very good one, I expect more from you.

look if you and pies want to disbelieve what I’m saying good for you,

You don’t have to say this … just take it as read …it’s my opinion on anything you say…

how many times have we argued this now over the years ? Your story evolves over time to try to cover the holes that get exposed from the time before ..only to open new discrepancies …

now you have an unnamed “source “ to support you …that’s a new one…but convenient …

Im not buying this argument .,.,I’m sure these businessmen would have had their contractual obligations clearly laid out in 1992 when they were admitted …. You can’t just turn around two years later and say ..wait here’s more costs for you to absorb

The fact other teams failed or were doing it tough is no surprise given the upheavals of the SL war … the worst period the game here has ever gone through
Apropos your first sentence. This is rugby league. Anything is possible.

One of the biggest ( there have been a few ) myths that Perth Red has perpetuated repeatedly over his 20 years in this forum , Is that the ARL made the Reds pay the away flight costs, and this led to financial burdens that put them out of the comp…

The realities are that Perth themselves offered to pay the travel costs to secure their admission to the comp… the ARL didn’t force them to do anything ….although admittedly they wouldnt have been given the green light otherwise … but the ARL had other expansion options and it was a surprise when Perth was ultimately included in the expansion

And of course Perth chose to stab the ARL in the back and join Super League before they ever played a game in the competition… so what ever financial arrangements they had that may have actually contributed to their demise was between them and Super League … not the ARL…

Take this from someone living in Australia at the time … not Hull England in those pre internet days of last century ..

yet where’s your evidence 0perth reds? Not just on this but any other item you have claimed to have information on.

west aussies bears 0 evidence. Your information is wrong. red bears posts something and it occurs.

western reds/ Perth reds you claim you know who you talked to well who was it? if they were part of the business set up then their name is easily identified and traceable on internet database. you quick to shoot buffalo’s claim as lack of evidence yet you show none yourself.

so what would an englishmen from hull know about not only rugby league in Australia in mid 90/ but also anything happening in west Aussie when he wasn’t even in the country and his claimed source is a coffee date with some geriatric. it sounds so unbelievably cooked

and all buddy posted was about house prices and flight prices in 92/93 which have 0 to do with western reds in 95/96 or Perth reds in 97.

I lived in Perth 92-93 and let me tell you that the flights return to the east were bloody expensive. Mostly around $750 approx. I remember getting them on special for $550.
My pay was about $360 in the hand at the time.
The rent was cheap though, $70 per week for a fully furnished unit on Scabs Beach.
See above Perth reds - what does any of that have to do with western reds and their travel? plane tickets were expensive yes that isn’t a revelation. As informative as his post was it has 0 impact on what you and buffalo are discussing and to even bring it up is mind warping cooked by ya. it’s like you lie yourself into knots then try to use irrelevant stuff to weasel your way out of the lie you created.

In 1992 when the entry deal with ARL was done news ltd didnt own the reds, in 1994 when the reds were told they would have to pay for another comp side travel news ltd didnt own the reds.
it was end of 1994 early 1995 reds were offered to be bought out by news ltd, the additional unbudgeted costs were a big driver in the decisions made.

It was by all accounts a very acrimonious decision with half the board against and half for. the Ill feeling spread through out the WARL and it’s clubs and within a few years there was no reds, fewer WARL clubs and a registered player base that dropped from 10k to 2k. No one suffered more from the superleague war than rugby league in the West.

but we look forward not back, 2025 the year of reemergence of rugby league in the West?
Gold Coast
Brisbane
Sydney
Illawarra
Even Canberra all suffered post super league

The first threes losses were massive

I’ll wait to see the detail before I decide how much of my hard earned and time I Invest in it.
Who cares, get the licence over the line then worry about that rubbish, there is heaps of clubs that have a Cinderella story, or rubbish starts like the Cowboys for example that can come real good down the line.
#getthatfknlicence1st

If anything cowboys are great example of expansion done well, took them a decade to make a GF then another to win it,
you don't build rome in a day, start with the foundation, and foot in the door, you get results quicker then that a cherry on top

so englishman desperate to have nrl presence in Perth will only support Perth if the documentation and set up is up to his personal expectations? that’s about as cooked as it comes.

Reminds me of the old saying- Beggars can’t be choosers…….
But that’s the point, as a consumer I’m not begging. It’s a choice where I spend my time and money. If they dont get this right and make it a WA club first and foremost then people like me won’t be investing what I could in it.

then you’re whole schtick is crap because who dictates what is right and what makes a wa club? if it’s businesses sponsoring well guess what’s broncos don’t just have brissy businesses sponsoring them. is it ownership? some of the best operated clubs ownership isn’t even majority local.

Crowe isn’t from south Sydney, news ltd aren’t from brissy. you want a WA club yet you care so much about particulars which don’t impact you in any ways, it’s hilarious. enjoy what is instead of what isn’t
