From today’s SMH, exactly as I have said, not rocket science, not long to wait.
View attachment 98436
Don't government's announce huge pork barrelling projects in the hundreds of millions as part of their campaigns to win votes? So government being conservative and not commenting on big projects is not quite correct. I think it has more to do with getting an NRL team is not a huge vote winner and Cook would rather spend his time in shoring up his votes to get re-elected. I would think health, education, etc are more important issues for the government than having public servants and other officials working on an MOU for a rugby league team during an election campaign. After all, it appears WA will get a team given all the noise around the Bears, so no need to waste energy on ironing out the details when you have an election to win. It can be done after you win.

In saying the above, nothing surprises me and there might be a team announcement before the election. Who knows.

No evidence that wa is an AFL state?!
I would’ve thought growing the game in wa would be a priority for Perth rugby league fans

Turns out they just want a game on at times that suit their small fanbase and are ok relying upon tv viewers in eastern states to carry the team

If they go head to head with the eagles and dockers then their current tv ratings will be the limit

I would have thought that a supposed bears fan would support the only chance that defunct club have of coming back.

Have you forgotten about those poor little rich kids in Mosman craving for a team 4000 km away that they can call their own?

Small fan base? There was 41k at a double header here. Now previously, in one of your rants against a Perth team, you said no one would travel to Perth for an NRL game. So that's 41k local league fans to cater for. HBF will hold about 27k so I'd be targeting the league fans here before trying to attract your AFL brethren.

WB is a known liar. He hates the idea of a Perth team and is known for endlessly ranting against one. He is the forums biggest dick head.

Yes putting WA games on a timezones that locals can't watch will grow the club.

Some people are beyond dumb
The time zones suggested here locals can watch.

It’s absolutely no different to Warriors or Cowboys or even Titans for that matter that are generally allocated 6 out of the 8 current specific time slots for majority of their games. Anyone actually think a 6pm Friday or 2pm Sunday kick off on the Goldie caters to the local market? Hell no, but it does cater to the overall tv audience. That’s what’s key, the overall market.

As someone already said here - having an increase in a smaller market that’ll simultaneously cause a decrease in a larger market isn’t a smart business decision. If a 7:30pm WA Local time kick off causes WA to increase their TV metro audience viewership numbers by let’s say 50-150% while at the same time that 9:30pm kick off in NSW/QLD decreases their TV viewership numbers by even 15-20% then it’s still a loss considering how much % NSW/QLD market make up.

There’s a wider picture to look at beyond small markets, regardless of their potential growth. 6 out of 9 and potentially 10 time slots is good. Aim is to grow the game on top of the metrics it’s already producing and not stunt a larger area due to trying to bolster a smaller area. It needs to be synergetic. My take anyways.

On that note Happy Australia Day all!

There has to be give and take for this new club as there is with every club. As long as the Bears get a fair share of Perth friendly time slots then there is no reason to complain either way.

What decrease in eastern markets there are hardly any games on now in the Sunday 6 pm time slots and the ones that are rate amongst the lowest each week

Saturday 9 pm est gives Perth no clashes with afl and a new time slot for Foxsports

If the team isn’t about growing tv viewers in wa then there’s no point in putting a team there.

Could put it in Singapore and it would be as useful

The goal should be for Perth viewership to rise from 8k to 100k eventually for the game involving the bears

That’s the only way the team will ever be valuable on their own to tv (outside the bears connection)

So we're agreed then. No team for WA. So f**k off back to hibernation for the bears fans.

Because this is what this dopey discussion is about from the bears brigade, they want east coast friendly time slots so they can watch in the comfort of their homes while reminiscing about the time they almost made a grand final for the first time in 70 years.

I just looked at the AFL draw. Both Fremantle and West Coast have Saturday games this year that will still be in progress at 7pm. So there goes your theory of not clashing.
