Again thats your interpretation of what Ive said. ALL travel costs were imposed on them by the ARL. They did agree to pay them as part of getting a license as it was a requirement, not an option, Ive never said different.Im just saying your story has evolved over time … you used to say that ALL travel costs were imposed upon them by he ARL ( not that they agreed to pay them themselves) and that the only reason they moved to Super League was because they were broke … although they had agreed to join SL before they had played their first game …how could they be broke already from paying travel costs ?
I think it’s all rather unnecessary excuse making to try to explaIn away their previous failure back in 1995 … when about half the other teams failed as well during the biggest upheaval the game has seen ..: they were never going to make it through to the other side regardless of their financial and on field performace …
The big blow to their financial future, or so Ive been told by a board member of the time, was the late adding of the extra imposition of another side which was never budgeted for. Travel back then was bloody expensive and a major area of expenditure for the club.
Hence why they knew they were in some financial strife before they had even kicked off and why SL looked very attractive. It wasnt that they were broke in 1994 but they could see the challenges ahead.
Yep it is but somehow it seems Reds are the only one that 'failed'. I dont even know why its a point of discussion now. Its thirty years later and the world and the NRL are in no way comparable to 1995.
