Yeh having been backed into a corner to say that no deal is done and there is a lot of negotiations to be had, and that's why he isnt putting it up as an election mandate issue, he cant really turn around a couple of weeks after the election and announce that actually the deal is now done.
I dont expect we'll see an announcement now until mid year. Probably needs 2-3 months after election not to look like he was lying. I expect we will see ongoing media stories about the negotiations, then finally an announcement, maybe around the Origin game in Perth in June, or of not then could even be later in the year? 2027 is looking very unlikely.

There is no need for him to make an announcement this year if 2027 start date is off the table …maybe next year for 2029 ….gives then more time to get the COE and whatever version of the stadoum upgrade ends up being

Worst case for the NRL is they take an 18 team comp to the next TV rights meetings that will start mid year …it’s still an extra game a week to sell

I don't think he has much back tracking to do. He only said that if it was a $120mill license fee then the deal is off.

He'll be sweet announcing it late March .
exactly seems like that was wording more than anything.

$120m license fee? no
$120m junior sports (in the form of rugby league) investment into development pathways, programs and infrastructure upgrades? yes

We’ll see ..,, is this really one of the first things he needs to announce post election victory when he has been ducking and weaving about it this past week since it become a political issue ?

Is it really that important to him? Does anyone else in his govt care ?

Is anyone in the community dead set against it? I know ch7 and the libs are , but does anyone protest?
I've heard community groups and the local council are against the Burswood racetrack but havn't heard anyone complain about the bears.
He's upset 2 groups with agendas, that's about it.

I

Plenty on social media seem to be … like I said … I just dont see after the past week why this is something he needs to announce immeadiately post election …let things lie for a year and get it done then…aren’t there other issues on this campaign that are probably more important to the electorate? You tell me … you live there right?

Well it doesn't need to be actioned immediately but it doesn't need to be done at all either. I'd say the NRL want it done ASAP and I don't think he'll be against that.
He would have know all this was gonna get thrown at him by the libs and ch7 , I really don't think it effects anything.

He wouldn't even need to be the one announcing it. The NRL can just thank him in any announcement if he wants to keep a low profile post election.

This is the bloke who lead a chant at an NRL game in Perth last year.

He will be the one who announces it, sitting right next to PVL I expect.

Bonus: sitting in front of Channel 7 cameras and letting them eat crow (pun intended).

just read mark mcgowan is on the campaign trail to assist cook and west aussie alp. mcgowan was the catalyst for this entire west aussie nrl club push. he originally approached bears and nrl opening the door for whats happened since.

also big league buff and federal gov treasurer jim chalmers is in west aus to help cook as well. couple big guns there.

of course none of this has any real relevance to west aussie bears nrl club and i mean zero connection but any help for cookie to retain power and hold seats is a positive for rugby league i guess considering where things are at in the greater scheme of things.

Shadow treasurer Steve Martin hit back at Saffioti’s criticism, citing the government’s refusal to provide details about a deal in negotiation with the NRL to establish a team in WA.

“Every single Liberal policy, when we announce it, we tell the public of Western Australia what it’s going to cost,” he said.

“What’s the rugby league team going to cost? The Premier is now embarrassed that it’s leaked out of New South Wales. The deal’s been done. They’re just not telling Western Australians what it’s going to cost.”

hmm i mean it wouldn't be hard for a politician to find out if the deal is in fact done or not. they all have connections in media and businesses.. just saying.

starting to look like the targeted wording of "license fee" might be the ultimate deflection of what it actually is. lol condemn "license fee" terminology and saying nothing of its true nature "sports investment at a grass roots level".

Deal is done according to what a politician said during an election campaign…. must be true

Cook is saying it hasn’t been done .., this dude saying it has … one of them must be lying

Assume you understand how politics works ? The truth is less important than making the other side look bad in front of the electorate…
