WA BEARS

It remains relevant if the the WA govt are refusing to pay a license fee and the NRL has turned down that opportunity from private investment. If it falls over due to that after the NRL has had the opportunity, well that would be very sad for the game.

Unfortunately my man has stepped down from his seat so I cant ask him what exactly the stumbling block is. It seems CofE, HBF upgrade and funding for jnrs at 24 schools plus DO's was ok for the Govt, so I wonder what else the NRL is asking for that has the Govt so riled?
seems like there is no license fee, its clearly a sporting and junior rugby league programs, development & pathways and infrastructure/facilities improvement investment.

you never had a man in the government. convenient he is gone now that it's all coming towards the end of the line one way or another.

the opportunity in cumins consortium was never there. this isnt pawn stars buddy or maybe it is??

PVL is selling the entire game, round one, Las Vegas, upcoming TV rights negotiations etc. He's going to mention how the game is valuable, especially to expansion territories.

Cook with an election coming up not wanting it to become an election issue-

Pvl has been In Vegas being treated like a Greek god he hasn’t said a word about it for ages

Wa needs nrl more than vice versa

Already number one sport without an nrl team. Expansion into png and nz are where the real growth will occur.

Isn't rugby league already the number one sport in PNG without an NRL team? Sounds like there is no growth opportunity there based on your logic.

Pipsqueak is an annoying little pissant but at least he knows when to take a time out. Maybe Gobjob and wbtiktok could follow his lead.

Very debatable. On what logic? While I am sure the WA government would like an NRL team and the various benefits it offers, Cook has to be careful he is not seen as handing huge money over to a minority sport in his state as the opposition party will try and make political mileage out of it and politician's aren't in the business of losing seats, no matter how big their majority is, to appease a football code, especially one with a small following in their state.

WA is producing huge surpluses and is probably Australia's strongest state due to the mining industry, the NRL posted record results, both parties will survive and thrive without each other.

This. WA doesnt need NRL and NRL doesnt need WA. Would they both benefit from a Perth club? Absolutely. The difference is the WA govt doe not have mandate to grow prof sport in WA, where as the ARLC has mandate to grow the game of Rugby League across Australia.

Id love some detail on what is being asked of the WA Govt that they are not happy about.
Funding for HBF park is a non issue as its Govt infrastructure project. $200-300mill is nothing for this Govt.
Funding for a CofE is a non issue as the WA govt has built one for every other sport
Funding for Jnrs, ok a bit more contentious as they haven't traditionally directed jnr funding at any one sport, but if its a reasonable $ amount they can probably get it through the pub test with stuff about increasing kids health and girls participation

So what else is the NRL demanding that the WA govt sees as such a big issue I wonder?

Yes: 84%
No: 16%
Do you agree with the NRL’s prerequisite for the Bears to be linked to the team in Perth?
Yes: 56%

Interesting clubs support NRL owning clubs over private owners. Id have thought in the parochial world of NRL club land they would hate the idea.

Second answer is interesting in the split as well, seems not all clubs are fussed if Sydney based Bears fans go to Sydney away games!
