It's done, the NRL will have their hands full the next few months on the media deal. Maybe next year we'll pick up discussions on team 19/20 again, which may or may not involve Perth.

Maybe it’s a win-win situation with another Brisbane team and NZ2 waiting in the wings?
With all due respect mate, this bullshit that NZ are waiting in the wings ready to go is laughable - THEY HAVE NO MONEY - get it every one, Brisbane 3...please spare me, let`s just cram another side in Queensland.

This whole episode is an embarrassing f**k-up, from "several attractive options" to one fully Gov`t funded team in a third world country. The fumbles will be splitting their sides laughing.

I`m done with this garbage and all the bullshit pathetic insider info, what a sad crock that was.
You can bullshit amongst yourselves from now on.

So the NRL are walking away from a Perth team because the afl are sabotaging their attempts? I would hope this is just a lame negotiating tactic because it seems like they are giving the afl exactly what they want…

If we don’t expand to WA with a league loving premier I don’t think we ever will, this is the best chance we will ever have.

There’s a plan b if Perth falls over anyway
Eh, it'd be for the best.

The demands PVL is making of WA are ridiculous. It was no way to start a healthy business relationship, and probably would have set the team up for failure.

Giving it some time and allowing the Bears to f**k off before reviewing would be a good thing.

The best thing to do is to stop caring. or this sport could drive a sane man mad.

The Wolfpack, a professional comp in the USA that was supposed to start this month, 3 new NRL teams…..none of it ever happens. Don’t ever get your hopes up and you’ll never be disappointed.

This could be very close to the mark

The arlc has other options

Has the wa govt tried to weasel out of a promise or has Pvl asked for more from them

Christchurch has a ready made rectangle stadium due to open in 2026.
Where are Christchurch supposed to find A$12mil a year for ten years, or any of the other ridiculous shit PVL was demanding of WA?

Or is Christchurch not going to be held to the same standard that Perth was because it isn't in any of the “rusted-on AFL states“?

Whether he gets his Perth team or not, PVL has completely dropped the ball on expansion when it should have been a straightforward home run for the sport. Anybody who wasn't blinded by the cult of personality around the bloke could see it coming from a mile away as well. PVL's an aggressive protectionist with a very short-term outlook, which is completely the wrong attitude for successful expansion.

The suggestion that the AFL was attempting to sabotage the deal is hilarious.

The only people PVL and the NRL would have to blame for sabotaging the deal it themselves.

Offering a deal so ridiculously one-sided and expensive was always going to rile people up. Frankly, the only reason you'd do it is if you're completely delusional, which is possible, or, more likely, if you didn't want the deal to be accepted in first place, just like the AFL trying to scare Tasmania off with their ridiculously over the top demands of them.

If Perth falls over the 19th would still be the bears just depends on the location

But the Canterbury colours matching the bears fits better than Ipswich
Odds are that the NRL won't expand to 20 teams as planned if the Perth side falls over.

The NRL will probably sit at 18 for a while before considering expansion again, by which time the issues with the Dolphins and PNG will have made themselves apparent and will likely give pause to further expansion.

If the money sink that an NRL Europe would be happens, which is becoming increasingly likely with each passing month, then whoa boy, that could really put a spanner in the works. I mean there's a not insignificant chance that they could be backing Super League 2.0 in Europe by this time next year, and honestly it'd be in the best interest of the game if they did if things keep heading in the current direction they are in England at the moment.

Either way it'll be interesting times, especially with the AFL continuing to slowly progress, RU likely to go through something of a mini-renaissance with the Lions tour and WC coming up, Basketball continuing to grow at an unprecedented rate, and international sports taking more and more interest in the market and talent pool.

Where you been bro? Never heard a peep out of you when PNG got the nod,,,

there is only one thing that is really going to matter and that js the TV deal …they are the most watched sport in the country so they need to be paid accordingly..

Also could be a little premature to be dancing on the grave of the Perth NRL team just yet ….another twist in this long road wouldn’t be a surprise
